Going to
-Quebec City Jun 29 - Jul 2
-Montreal Jul 2 - Jul 5

Planning on transiting / walking most of the time.

Looking for:
-Things to do
-Where to eat
-Places to stay (Seems like Old Quebec and Old Montreal are the most walkable?)

Thanks!

Walkable and being most European without going to Europe.

Stay longer in Montreal and watch the F1!!

Quebec City at its heart is just like Europe but can easily be done in a day or two. Tour the Citadel, get some chocolate from Erico, walk along the river.

Montreal has a ton of stuff, most of which is in Old Montreal but there's a lot to see. The botanical garden is pretty cool, go up Mont Royale, rent a bixi and go along the canal. Eat all the poutine

That's June 9th, a month before he heads out.

I'm seriously considering it given how cheap flights are.

Whoops definitely read that as early June lol. Cos and I were out there to watch F1, was a riot! Also all the students were protesting about some bullshit, and police were everywhere with riot gear on lol.

Were out there 4 years ago but sub $400 flight got me thinking. Just not sure I can get away.

I would suggest the Montmorency Falls Zipline for Quebec City, fairly cheap for the view you get and the falls are pretty nice albeit overcrowded at peak hours.

Au Pied de Cochon - if you only book one place to eat, go here
Garde Manger was also very good

A couple Montreal staples:
Schwartz's Deli
Fairmont Bagel
La Banquise (classic Montreal poutine) - this was pretty underwhelming

Free walking tour of Old Montreal... we enjoyed it

We took a boat from Quebec City to Montreal. Highly recommended as you can see more of the surrounding country. Took a train back for our flight.

There is a bus tour that goes out to a winery on Ile d'Orleans which was awesome

Did the same trip last year and was kinda bored with both cities to be honest. Montreal nightlife is decent but both cities were otherwise pretty tame and familiar (very Canadian). Might be a lot more going on in terms of festivals in summer time. Interesting parts of Old Quebec City are easily walkable in a single day - Terrasse Dufferin, Citadel, Chateau Frontenac. Montreal I'd stay near St Laurent blvd or St Denis st to be close to eats and entertainment. Took the train between those 2 cities and there was nothing of interest to see. I'd spend extra $$$ to go to Europe before I go to Quebec again. Best thing I had on the trip was the orange drink at Gibeau Orange Julep. Just my 2 cents.

Montreal is one of my favorite places to visit. Pretty much everything you would want can be found on Saint-Catherine St W. Places to eat, shop, and strippers are right there and everything is walk-able so keep that as your Central or most westerly point. Saint Denis does have some great restaurants but not much else I found so it was good to check out one one night or afternoon but you get bored of that area fast. We try and find air BNB around Rue de Bleury because you are pretty central to where ever you want to go and the Metro is nearby. There is also a bunch of hotels on Sherbrooke West that are close to McGill if you want to venture around campus. Still able to walk to old Montreal but its a bit more of a trek so you hope for good weather. The Metro stations are pretty good if you want to go to the Biodome. If you can, do a breakfast at Le Cartet on MgGill street. Some of the best breakfast we found and right on your way to old Montreal if you stay in the areas I suggested. Also its not far from Notre-Dame Basilica.

The absolutely 100% must do in Montreal IMO is to go to the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, also known as the Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History. Even if you're not a museum person its so interactive that you can't help but love it. We've gone 4 times now and every time we spend 3-4 hours in there. You walk around old foundations of the first settlements in Montreal plus they just opened up a new tunnel which is deadly. Make an afternoon of it and grab lunch at a nearby restaurant then do the museum then wander around old Montreal for supper and drinks.

My wife and I have been to 4 Osheaga music festivals, a Canadians game, separate work trips, and even got engaged in old Montreal. The cab/uber ride from the airport sucks ass but once you're down there its a great city.

EDIT: In Montreal you don't need to know any french, but in Quebec city outside of the super touristy areas they definitely look down on you if you don't. I'm bilingual but with an obvious English accent and they are always snotty and rude when I try and speak french to them. Most of the time they wouldn't even acknowledge my English wife if we were off the beaten path.

I thought Montreal was awesome. Food is amazing, transit is amazing, old town is really nice. It's just a really nice city with lots to do. Arguably better than Vegas for bachelor parties. Looking to go back end of summer.

Yeah we had a ton of fun that year. I've been 4 times in total now to Montreal for the GP + a few other European races. Maybe it is because it is my 'first' but I really enjoy Montreal's track. Plus I just love the town, the area around La Banquise (I think it was called Fountain Park?) I just love.
