I've been looking at getting a commuter brief, as my Timbuk2 messenger bag that I use daily is a little big and doesn't dress up very well.

Right now the best contender for me is the Tumi Alpha Bravo Albany Slim Commuter. Looking for something of good quality around this size (~4"depth, enough W x H for 15" laptop max, my current work computer is only a 12.5).

What are you guys using? Budget around $5-600 max. I'm not a baller so no $1k+ bags for me.

I like my Filson computer/messenger bag, its not super fancy or flashy looking and those who know what they cost and the durability.

Mark nailed it. I’ve has mine for 8 years now. Lifetime warranty, and you don’t like a style stunted pleb. So many gaudy bags out there.

Yeah, +1, nice and subtle.

And easily within the OP's asking price range.

Jesus, is that meant to look like snakeskin?

Alligator, and it's legit. Ugly, but legit.

If by legit, you mean fucking ugly, it's indeed 2legit.

I've been using a Hides messenger bag for a couple of years now, no complaints. This one is a hair larger than mine and seems like it would fit your needs unless you need tons of pockets. It's a simpler bag.

Lifetime warranty, not as chunky as a Saddleback but not as stiff either.

I checked out their store in Market Mall the other day, this was pretty nice. The "portrait" styled bag is pretty dope. It also having backpack straps you can take on/off is just a plus IMO.

Some good suggestions here, thanks guys. I was also looking at Filson ones before, they are a contender. Lots of people have good things to say about them. I will definitely look at the poppy barley place in market mall soon, that's a nice bag.

Unfortunately the gator skin brief is about $9k outside my budget.

Filson is only available at a limited amount of shops... No idea if Canadian Tire carries those particular bags (or can order them in ) but the one on Southland does carry Filson, and it is usually on sale.

Canadian Tire on Macleod has Filson, all on sale right now too.

Or it was couple weeks ago.

I have a Tumi Alpha Bravo. Very similar to the commuter but I think it was a bit wider. I didn't like it. Quality was fine but it never held it's shape. The bag would just fall over when I put my laptop in. I found it unconformable as well. I switched to the Alpha Bravo Sheppard backpack and it's been great. That's my third Tumi bag. The first one I got was also a commuter style but it was very small. The plastic clip on that one broke.

I used Ted Baker bags. Priced well and go well with a suit or business casual. They can usually be found on sale. My daily Ted Baker is the "Airlift". Holds my laptop and most of my other crap with no issues but is not bulky and is waterproof.
