Building a better portable A/C window kit?

Anyone do this? I have a big 20,000 BTU dandy that we lost the window kit for, and was thinning I'd take the adapter off the hose, and build something that fits my window out of 1/8th board (figure what it is) then jigsaw a hole to mount a dryer vent hood to...

think this would work well?

Not that ghetto. So long as he paints it to match the windows, it'll look fine. I recommend thicker wood though, use whatever thickness will fit nicely into the grooves of your window, where it will sit.

I built one of these out of 1/4" thick ABS plastic, and another out of 1/4" thick lexan. The lexan one was nice because it let light through and you can't have a colour mis-match if it's clear! Both worked great, I just made it slightly shorter (or narrower if you've got a vertical slider) so it could slip into the track then pinched it in place with the window and some foam tape on the edges.

I briefly considered making it out of 1/8 or 1/4" hardboard but figured the moisture would kill it as sometimes we were lazy about taking it out of the window if rain was in the forecast.

I used white melamine board, I think it's 5/8". Cut to fit the window opening, jigsawed a hole for the duct, and cleaned up on the spindle sander. Looks fine, and seals the window opening very well - it's a vertical slider so the weight of the slider holds it in place.
