Still better IMO if I want stuff not on netflix. It also lets you automate a lot more. All the shows in my library automatically fetch new episodes and then organize them on my HTPC. And with Plex you can remotely stream stuff so I can watch it on the go when I travel as well as a lot of my family streams from my server too.

A bunch of my extended family were hanging onto their 100$ a month cable just because of one or two shows they wanted to keep watching, so it's pretty easy to set that up and then got them to cancel and their much happier.

I know its a joke but just so you know you can get website subs off the darknet for like 2-5$ one time purchase that are lifetime ones (or at least a year before they get taken down). For shits and giggles I bought a brazzers account for 2$ once because I had some leftover bitcoins and it still worked 2 years later. Though idk why anyone would pay for it, its not really any better than free stuff

Man, that's stupid. I would be seriously miffed if I had to pay for a remote start subscription. Can you not just do it from the key fob, or does OnStar give you extended range?

I have an app for my phone for my F150 that lets me start my truck, but that's free, and I have the shorter range by doing it from my key fob as well.

As for subscriptions, we have:
Disney +

No, their partner (Tata) in delivering the service basically sucked ass. The partnership dissolved last week. Liberty is redoing the whole thing from scratch, and has been for months. Not sure when the new product will be available, or if existing service continues on till it's ready or what. Might be more short term pain before we see anything stable.

At this point I rely on AT&T TV Now and ESPN to watch the races, while my iPad has the dual in cars feeds that I cycle through with F1 TV, and laptop with live timing. Works for me.

Ah good, hopefully apple tv and android apps are on the horizon. I do still record the pre/post sky coverage on TSN, but even that is a mess with them and their ads and cutting programs short to show you the top 30 left handed batters with names that start with J.

Here's a shitty pic of the setup from last year that I sent to a friend. Excuse the mess that the kid left me.

97055

The big problem with this setup is synchronization. Live timing and in car feeds are 20-30s ahead of my TV stream. There's a delay option on live timing, but not for in car. It's like those bud light goal lamps.

But yea, I don't just watch the F1 race, I try to look at as much of the data that's in front of me. If I'm following a particular race against drivers, I can see when they're cooling off tires, charging batteries more for attack on next lap, and with full in car radio stream I get more info before it's covered by the broadcast crew. It's nerdy, but I really enjoy the data analysis aspects, and yell at the TV when so and so is making poor strategic decisions.

I typically rewatch a race multiple times to see what else I missed. Then I listen to the post race podcasts and get upset at myself if I miss a detail.

- iHunter (yearly)
- Costco (yearly)
- Audible (monthly but I should cancel this as I have like 9 credits built up)
- Crave (In laws' contribution)
- Disney + (sister in-laws contribution)
- Ring doorbell cam through google.
- ICloud ~ 50gb/month as an emergency backup for my phone
- One Drive/office 365 (through my business but I guess its still monthly)
- Quickbooks (again through my business)

Usually I do NHL live too but I'm having a really hard time with the shortened season and super lame blackouts so I've been using the in-laws shaw BlueCurve to watch the Flames. I'll probably still end up buying it when I get frustrated enough that there is nothing on TV during night shifts.

I had a subscription to the Athletic for a hot minute but I just don't care enough about anything outside of hockey to feel that I was getting much value out of it.

Couple of VPNs, Astrill and SurfShark(excellent BTW, one of the cheapest deals out there, and there geo spoofing is 2nd to none, very fast too), Astril is expensive, been with them 6 years now, about 15$ a month, Surfshark was a couple dollars a month on the deal I got for 3 years. Dropped my other VPNs as they were no longer required.

Shaw 1gbit - hard to say on price, it's wrapped in a bundle, average cost most likely.
Hulu USA Premium - about 20$ CAD a month
HBO Max USA - again about $20 CAD a month, on US credit card as it'll reject Canadian ones, works with SurfShark US VPN server while in Canada.
Crave/HBO - Yes, HBO Canada is redundant with the US HBO Max, but it came with the Crave deal we got, which was IIRC $15 a month for the year, around $5 off
Disney+ - regular price
Netflix 4k - regular price, VPN access to most of the Netflix World's catalogues
Prime - regular price, Prime will work with VPN to give access to US and UK Prime
Usenet/etc - I can't remember the price, IIRC it's $15 CAD a month for Newshosting

I have 3 home theater PCs and a large NAS, using Apple 4k tv on 2 of them and an nVidia Shield on the other, 2 65" LG Oled and one 77" LG Oled.

Once our "deal" is up with Shaw, the cable TV is gone, the missus watches it sometimes, I can't even remember the last time I used it.

- Amazon Prime
- Internet/TV from Telus (includes TV, Crave, HBO, movie channels)
- Playstation Plus

Cancelled Netflix and Disney+ outright, tried to lower the internet/TV plan but the plans I could switch to (even with less service) cost more than what I'm paying now

Pro tip: if you have any theme packs you don’t use, you can switch one to Amazon Prime. I just did this and now I don’t have to pay Amazon for prime any more.

Another pro tip, if you are out of theme packs you can redeem your “Telus rewards” for prime.

Or bill credits at the same redemption so whatever you want.

Wow. Disney Star doesn't suck. If I could get TLC via legit streaming cable would be gone tomorrow.

Disney+ is definitely debatably the best streaming service these days that’s for sure.

For the peeps that stream Hulu - how do you get it streaming on your TV? I've got VPN on the laptop but when I try to stream US content onto roku or chromecast its blocked since VPN isn't applied on the roku or chromecast...maybe I just answered my question.

I remember when TLC was "The Learning Channel" and was actually good.

Now it is complete and absolute garbage.

Lets see
-Disney (trade extra spots on there for Crave and Netflix
-Soundcloud Pro
-Hand full of twitch channel subs
-A couple music related Patreon
-Spotify
-Adobe
-Xbox Gamepass
-Nintendo (that I never use better punt that one come to think of it)
-Splice
-Dirtybird Birdfeed

I'm sure there's more but can't think of them right now

Went from 'the learning channel' to 'tender loving care'

The only solution. I believe you can't even use smart dns service on them, they're hard coded to Google DNS.

I guess another solution is to get a real streaming device haha.
