This one's got me interested. BMW is set to launch the BMW i4 next week in Geneva. The i4 is built on the new 4 Series Grand Coupe platform, 530hp, 500km range, 0-60 just under 4 seconds. 150kW charger, 35m to 80% charge speed.

Basically, first real competitor to the Tesla Model 3, for roughly the same money (C&D expects $5k more than the current 4 series GC), but with German build quality. Out in around 2 years.

More here, with photos of the interior: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1576904

The original concept was beautiful, expecting this to look nothing like it next week haha.

Sweet. I’d look at one.

How are they going to get M into this? Is an i4M going to be a thing?

The i440 has 100hp more than an M4, but knowing BMW they'll figure out a way to gouge with a M package of some sort.

4 seconds? Man I was way off, I thought Tesla was like sub 3 back in 2013 or 14 or is that only a certain model? Sorry I literally know jack shit about Tesla or any EV for that matter, just 4 seconds is not really that fast

3.5 for Performance Model 3. 5.1 for SR

2.4 is Model S P100D.

If it's really going to be priced in the $80K range, that's still quite fast. I assume leave some room for a M down the road. i4M?

Given everyone is failing to meeting emission rule in EU and nobody can secure battery supply, is this unicorn even going to be shipped outside of EU?

If it’s AWD I agree sub 4.0 isn’t a stellar bar.

But if there is a full fat M model still to come after this then sub 4 is a perfectly reasonable target.

The top end model is going to be god damned expensive though, I’m hoping they make a real nuts Gasser M4 to give it a run for its money though.

I know my dads been waiting to hear about this car, he really likes the iPace but not willing to shell out $90+k currently.

2.4? Damn that’s fast. I suppose the price yes didn’t think much about that. Like I said I know nothing of them at all, always loved the way Tesla looked, I think there is all of a couple where I live so I don’t see them very often.

Agree. So fast!
I'm confused why they're making an i4 humiliate their own i8. Unless...
The next incarnation of the i8 is going to go the speed of thought... When is that due?

Curious as to how big the battery is going to be.

If, like Porsche, BMW can sustain 150KW to 80%, then here are my calcs.

35/60 * 150 / 0.80 = 109 KWh.

With 530 hp and that 0-60, it suggest its going to be pretty heavy.

may take time to get used to the new grill.

It's basically the same grille that will be used for the 2021 M3/M4 so by the time this is released you will either like it or hate it based on what you think it looks like on those cars.

It's an 80kwh battery from BMW's press release. They even released the weight in there. 550kg.

I didn't bother clicking on your link. haha

Looked up the BMW press release. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/canada/article/detail/T0302819EN/the-new-bmw-i4:-the-future-of-hallmark-brand-driving-pleasure?language=en

Pretty awesome that they have managed to get better than Tesla's efficiency.

If it comes in at $75K, that would be pretty competitive. They need to get more HP though.

I don't think so.

Model 3 Long range battery is 480kg/70kwh - EPA rated 518km

i4 battery is 550kg/80kwh - And I'm assuming BMW is quoting WLTP range of 600km which is EPA equivalent of 535km

So 10kwh more and only 20km more range. It's not more efficient but definitely better than 400km that e-tron get out of a 95kwh battery.

Has anyone got anywhere near the EPA ratings on a Tesla? After the whole Taycan vs Model S comparos I feel like Tesla figured out how to game the EPA rating system.

benyl's day 1 with his Model 3 on an out of town trip was hilarious to me haha.

You can only get EPA with 18" aero wheels, at 22C, flat road, and no wind.

I saw it with a tail wind on my way to Nakiska at 130km/h. haha

haha surprised you can get it at 130km/h. Most people only come close to seeing it at 90km/h.

Early leak. Reveal is scheduled for tomorrow. Was hoping it was a more production concept but looks like still a ways to go. Love the 4 seat layout.

I am not a fan of that huge ass grill opening. Large grills are for trucks and BBQing, not for sports sedans. The side profile looks good though, and the interior is just concept stuff. It will probably end up looking like the 3 series interior.

By the time the concept is tamed dusk I think this have a very good chance of being good looking.
