Can a dealer read a chipped key and find the VIN of the car and possibly the owner (assuming it's the original owner)? Everything I've found online only talks about cutting a key from the VIN, but nothing the other way around. This is a Honda key, if it matters.

I found a set of keys on my way home last week and I'd like to return them to the owner.

Not that I'm aware of, it'll usually go to a cut code (a-z) then the corresponding digits for the exact vehicle. Then the immobilizer system only uses it's unique key to communicate back and forth. I don't think it stores any other information on it

Yeah, that's what I assumed, but I thought I'd ask in case I was wrong. Thanks.
