if you are living/working there under a NY liscense then i would pay it. or fight it at least. I dont know anything about Aus. rules so i cant help you much there. Im not sure if it would even effect your driving record (im pretty sure it wouldnt) but again, not familiar with local rules.

yeah then I would pay it, you don't want to get hooped for unpaid fines while on holidays.

Talk to the local authorities, tell them you weren't familiar with the seat belt law since you're from NY, and see if they'll do anything for you.

if you don't pay it it could go on your record and i think you might not beable to go back to the country. I dunno if thats true but its like having a criminal record and trying to cross the boarder i think. just not gonna happen. I would atleast fight it. tell the judge that you took your seat belt off while you were reaching for your wallet (works for me)

Ok, we have an American asking Canadian's about Australian law...

I doubt anyone could help you here and be 100% confident of their advice. Why don't you call up the cops in Oz and ask them. That is what I would do.

my dad has like 20 unpaid tickets in the US and goes there without any problems. Dont know the law in Australia though.
