It’s a inline 6 or a V8. Neither are super reliable afaik. I’d expect to spend at least $5000/year in maintenance and repairs.

Quick google will get you much better information from the BMW forums.

X6M or bust, as long as you are into expensive, unreliable, ugly SUVs with no utility to speak of you can’t go wrong.

You will definitely impress all your hairy armed friends of all nationalities though so that’s a big plus. Just dudes though, if you are into that sort of thing.

Hi Papers, Bimmerpost is a good resource.

Historically based on the forums, there has not been a lot of issues with the 2014+ (F15) X5 or X6's either the inline 6 N55 or the TTV8 N63 as they both received major updates compared to the older generation (E70).

Although cheaper, please do not consider the E70 X5M or X6M with the older engine.

You will find alot more information on Bimmerpost, but we have had no issues with our 2015 X5 3.5i so far outside of normal maintenance. It's at 86km right now. We decided against the 5.0i because the extra power didn't seem necessary for the lowered fuel economy (it's bad enough as is) and the significantly higher price tag. The 3.5i doesn't feel under powered at all. If anything, it feels much quicker than our Cayenne S, which has a V8. No regret going with the 3.5i

I would definitly opt for ones with the M sport package. Beside looking way better, the sport seats are also much nicer/more adjustable, and the M-sport suspension is nice too, Although I can't really tell the difference between Sport and the Sport+mode (Sport+ is only available on the M-Sport package).

Don't know much about the M-lines (X5M/X6M) beside the brakes on those are really expensive to replace.

i had a 2012 X5M and sold it after 6 months , it was fast but was so unreliable i use to park it outside in the winter and notting would work in it if it was cold (-20 and over ).

i was happy to break even

I would go with the N55. It's largely bulletproof as M2 forums were almost boring for their lack of drama from major issues.
