Noticed on FB that Downtown MB is selling 2020 GLAs that are brand new for $33,900. That is $6000 below dealer cost according to Unhaggle. They come with warranty to 2025. Does this seem a little too good to be true? Could someone not drive this for 1-2 years and sell at a minimal loss? Hoping some of the knowledgeable MB beyonders can chime in. I know nothing about Mercedes.

making room for 2021? the 2020 will look immediately dated when the new ones land. Pretty fair deal based on that I think.

Possibly were ordered for car2go duty, with them pulling out of all NA markets they now have a surplus... combine that with covid and perfect recipe for fire sale.

Would probably lease out well... fun little cars with some practicality

considering they have about 100 of em all the same specs in grey white or black looks like it... amazing deal though - nav and avante garde package... probably cant even get a rav4 or crv at that price

They probably over ordered and got stuck with it. Probably a very base model that very few willing to take on. As well as GLB has already landed and is 10x better in utility, interior quality and tech. Nobody in their right mind will pick a GLA over GLB at the same price.

It's a good price you if are ok with base audio system. The system should have CP/AA support.

I don't know about driving for 1-2 years with minimal loss. Wholesale of used car has dropped 10% but given they took 20% off MSRP and give you 1 extra year warranty, it may be set you back to the normal depreciation curve.

Interesting. They are CPO with 90kms on them.

No wonder they got 5 year warranty.

Thanks for the replies. One of their sales guys confirmed they got them from Car2go at a heavily discounted price.
It does suck that none of them have the upgraded sound system. Their demo models with more KMs are listed for higher prices.
They're not willing to allow leases through MB finance on these.

Can't figure out what options they have to make them the $49k msrp pricing. Looks like all have navigation and most I think have parking/360 cam. Had been looking out for an suv for my sister, so this is pretty great deal.

No Car2Go has always been MB.

I believe a lot of dealerships are required to buy out their old (but new) stock. Which in this case the 2019 CLA/GLAs with 90km on the odometer are consider as 'pre-owned' so that's why you can't lease them.

The 97 doesn't look like they have been put into service. All under 90km, which is MB talk for new car.

But I bet they were registered under Car2Go but was never put into rotation and Car2Go just quit and stranded these.

Is it really accurate to call these things SUVs? To me they are more a crossover but i am completely naive to the world of Mercedes.

Anyone know if these have more interior room in the back than an Audi Q5? Kinda tempting just based on the price but no point in wasting mine or the dealer's time discussing if i'm losing room than what i have now.

EDIT: actually found this comparison: https://www.thecarconnection.com/car-compare-results/audi_q5_2018-vs-mercedes-benz_gla-class_2018

looks like the rear seat is way smaller so that's a no-go with my 2 car seats (one rear facing). oh well.

gpomp
04-24-2020, 10:34 AM
I can't believe these were $50k brand new when a $25k Golf or Mazda3 has a nicer interior. I guess $34k makes it more palatable...

More space then a Q5? Not a chance. The GLA is a small vehicle.

The GLA is only roomy if you have the AMG race seats. I hear there's a green one available.

So SCW only cover powertrain for year 4 and 5. You want full coverage, you need to upgrade to ELW at a discount.

It's a compact SUV and smaller than the old Tiguan. But I don't think you'll find a AWD vehicle with 250lb/ft of torque a this price range with 5yr/120k warranty.

And somehow I thought it was Lease....

2Legit2Quit
04-24-2020, 03:18 PM
Just got home from checking them out, it's a good deal overall for the sake of the vehicle, price, and warranty.

Biggest drawbacks are the interior space feels small, not terrible but small. I'm 6'5 so I'm pretty tall and sat comfortably in it, both in the front and back but compared to a CR-V it feels considerably smaller. I'd compare this to a HR-V or something similar in the crossover world. We have a dog so that's the biggest barrier for us, with the backseats folded upright there's no way he would be comfortable, so that leaves you with folding the seats down or having him in the back seat...not end of the world stuff but then what do you do if you have passenger(s).

Other negative is the financing, since these have been registered once they aren't offering the 0.49% they have for "new" vehicles and were offering 3.99% on a 5 year term which is blah.

Might be good for some folks as overall it is a good deal in general and depending on ones situation.

Good information!

Too bad about the financing as I think it would be very popular for many folks if it offered a low finance rate.

With that said, I wonder if this means there is more incentives if someone bought it as a cash deal? Curious to see if anyone pulled the trigger on one without financing.

By the way, it was $33,900 before, now it is $34,900. They increased the price by $1k?

You can still get it for $33,900 if you don't want the 3 year maintenance plan, that's the $1k increase.

Sales guy that helped us today said they sold 10 yesterday and more on the move today, local purchases and out of province buyers who are paying to have the vehicle shipped to them.

I don't see them budging on the price as there's no real need to since someone is going to buy the stock. I asked and was told no, negotiated trade in value though. Not sure if a full cash purchase would open any doors.

$250/mo, holy hell that seems like a good deal.

oilerfan4lyfe

I ended up going with the 2019 CLA 250 lease deal. Most the CLAs have between 5,500 and 10,000 KM on them. They still had a lot of them left in DT as of yesterday, other dealers are matching DT's posted promo if they also have the '19 Car2Go CLAs. IMO I think this car is a rip off for it's supposed new price, but I have no idea what else you can lease for this cheap.

Full terms:
Monthly payment of $248.48 + GST = $260.90 total, includes all fees, $0 down. Interest rate is 4.99%, 24,000 KM/year, 2 year term. The deal is through MBFS, so I assume it will qualify for a loyalty discount if getting a new MB later on.
Has first three payments waived, car is Star Certified and has 2 year warranty with limitations on top of regular warranty. Depending on in service date, warranty will run out in 2024 or 2025.
"A" servicing was done on mine, "B" servicing in about a year, guessing somewhere around $600 for that.

Price Breakdown:
MSRP $33,999.00
Options $790.25 (no idea why)
Adjustment $-4,369.25
Net $30,420.00
Filing fee $19.96
Financed amount $30,439.96
Residual $27,344.00
Implicit Finance Charge $2,867.56
Total Lease Cost $6,261.60

I tried desperately to make them cover the one payment I have left on my existing non-MB vehicle but they wouldn't budge even a dollar. Tried asking for less KMs/lower int rate/cover the next servicing, all was a straight no.

I wanted to get mine before posting on here, in case Xtrema decided to put it on RFD for the Ontario folks to get at (I'm kidding, I don't care that you put it on RFD).

Especially at 5% on a lease (interest on full vehicle cost)

If you have warranty for the full time you have it though, why not for that price? Tons of these cars had CELs and were like 5k kms over due for maintenance every time I would get in one. Long term ownership is not advisable haha

They're as expected, not blemish free, and the better they look, the more expensive they are.

I was not expecting my Samurai to go this long. I need new winter tyres this year. Electrics are starting to go. I need to do some basic rust work. But... park the Samurai in the parkade nursing home... and then a new car.... A new MERCEDES car for two years..

There was a lot of people there, need to go in by appointment but even then people were walking in without asking about the deals

Oh thank fuck.

We're all going to have to have a Car2Go meet one day

Apparently Mercedes Canada is leasing these, I believe open leases are only done through third party lenders. For example the Raptors that were selling a few months ago.
I probably will have them write it on the contract just for reassurance purposes.

Haha what color did you get? I did not get one. I was looking for my brother and went with him. He got white.

I think I will get the pre-paid maintenance worked into the payment as well. Works out be $264 all in

White as well. The grey is blah, and I hate owning black cars in this province. (plus the ones I saw needed a serious power polish)

Yes, I saw some Asian come in walk-in and they said sorry can't see anyone without an appointment. This was around 4:00pm, he pulled the I tried to "book an appointment but the server was not letting me" I am pretty sure he got to see someone.

For someone who owns a business this is perfect and that is exactly why my brother jumped on it.

I didn't even get to see the one we were getting, the salesman assured all curb rash, dings and dents will be fixed.

I left around 4:45 from the dealership I think. They have lots, some are in the front area where customers parks and they have tons in the back where the gated fence is.

I sat in a black one to get a feel in the fenced area.

Ok. I take it back, closed end lease, like adamc I went with white $273/month tax and prepaid maintenance. First three payments are also waived as an incentive.

How are the GLAs in terms of long term reliability and maintenance costs, post warranty period?

I keep telling myself I don't need a new vehicle, but damn at these prices they're tempting and I've always really liked the look of them.

Not sure about its reliability, but these are amazing deals for just leasing. Have fun with it for two years and just return them. Similar to that tlx deal back in 2015

edit: only cla can be leased

The lease deal is only on the cla, the gla is better to purchase.

The early models had a rash of transmission problems which was mostly because of the TCU. Ate through clutches way quicker than it should have. That’s all fixed now and doesn’t affect the newer model here. That’s your expensive fix if things break, DCTs aren’t very serviceable. Haven’t heard any long term problems otherwise. We had our 2015 B which had the exact same drivetrain for 4 years and 80k kms, drove the same as it did new. Rock solid.

All the wear items like brakes are available in the aftermarket much cheaper than oem from the dealer. IIRC complete set of discs and pads were like $300 aftermarket vs $1600 from dealer haha.

Thanks Rage. Maybe I'll go schedule a test drive.

That has to be an open ended lease. No way MBFS is going to want to take those back in two years at $27K.

Nice that you checked, cause MBFS does have open end leases (They call it Unlimited Kilometre Lease). 260/month close end is a great deal on a 2 year dump it lease. So tempting but i dont need anther car....
