Finally something to be excited about in East Village.
Makes living in one of the hundreds of condos in the area more tolerable!

Area should be pretty interesting in ~5 years.

Have heard that if you buy more than $20 at that store, then you get free underground parking.

Finally. Something to rival the Aspen Safeway.

It's very nice. Free underground car parking if you spend $20. Very few drug addicts or bums loitering out front so far. No stabbings yet.

East village gentrification is progressing nicely.

Was it busy when you went? It'll be nice having something close by to grab groceries, instead of going all the way to Huntington or Deerfoot Meadows.

Lol just wait. The riffraff will follow. Drop In Center is a block away.

Build it, and they will come.

The elephant in the room no political person will ever bring up, right. Gentrification (or "revitalization" as they say) isn't possible without some extreme changes to the social aspects of an area.

Woke crowd will protest gentrification as a form of genocide.

The unwoke crowd is wondering if opening a Superstore counts as gentrification.

I'm just glad it's a Superstore and not some hipster bullshit version of Loblaws that gives an excuse to hike prices.

I'm just glad it's a Superstore and not some hipster bullshit version of Loblaws that gives an excuse to hike prices.

Their last hipster bullshit version was called City Market. Their newest hipster bullshit version is called ‘Urban’ in East Village. Every new supermarket built by a corporation is their ‘flagship’ store, best one in the country ever. Once the grand opening sales numbers start dropping the prices will keep rising to what the local market can barely sustain. This is the grocery way. I’m pretty certain it will be the most expensive Loblaws location in Calgary, same as Safeway, Co-op and Sunterra downtown are.

Went to this new location late yesterday afternoon. Prices are not inflated as some have surmised but this location certainly does not carry as much in variety as even the Huntington Hills store and that store is more limited in it's offerings as compared to larger Superstores. Certainly it won't replace my nearest Superstore for our family's big grocery hauls by if I need a few things and I'm in the core/beltline areas than it is convenient because I now don't have to drive past my home to get to a Superstore.

One thng that as unexpected - no homeless people hanging around or even the expected down on their luck sign holders that one sees outside of pretty much every other Superstore. Hell, there were a few empty soda bottles right on the outside SE steps, obviously placed there and they hadn't even been picked up. A nice store overall, less selection but certainly much larger than I was expecting - I'll go there again. Certainly a bonus for anyone living close in - a grocery store in the core that offers better pricing than the Safeway or Coop locations in the beltline plus better eye candy than I ever see at any other Superstore.

I checked it out the other day and didn't get aids. That was a successful trip. Definitely worth a second visit for me.

Nice to have it here. A few things are 'missing' that I would have liked to have picked out. I would also say, I usually buy more than what I can walk home with, so I will probably still go to deerfoot meadows which is pretty sleepy considering its so close to Costco etc.
