Going through our new house last night and noticed a powered cable splitter:
91916
91917

I've never seen one of these before. I noticed it because there was a co-ax cable plugged into a power box that plugged into the wall. We are moving in on Thursday and my wife needs internet to join a meeting that morning. Shaw has been notified of the move and it's all set up to go (Shaw BlueCurve). I'm just wondering if this will throw a wrench into the plans? Does it need to be plugged in?

Any thoughts??

Pretty common to find them. They are basically a glorified signal booster for when you need to run long lengths or have multiple coax outputs in your home.

I always remove them as they aren't needed as I only need 1 coax port.

Okay. Thanks. The person who wired the house during their reno's was a complete idiot. The cable goes from the utility room to the far side of the house, only to run a cable back to the wall closest to the utility room. Crazy!!!

+1 for signal booster, Shaw usually puts these in when IIRC you have more than 3 TV's in the home due to signal degration(or so the tech said).
