I just picked up a new (to me) car the other day and it desperately needs a tech update. Can anyone recommend a double din stereo with Carplay that they have been having success with? Would like to keep it below $500 if possible. Cheers!

I had an Alpine in my Jeep that worked flawlessly (one of the full dash replacement kits), but I think the internal hardware/screen is pretty Generic so I would say the alpine stuff is a safe bet.

They even offer wireless CarPlay but that might be pushing the budget (300 USD).

I might be in the same situation soon...is there one that does wireless Android Auto as well?

I’ve heard wireless android auto is pretty spotty in the best of situations. (CarPlay isn’t great either tbh).

I think Kenwood and JVC make a head unit that will do it. Scarily I am having a very hard time finding a Reference to wireless android auto aside from articles from 2018.

I think Google is dropping it in favour of their new more integrated auto system....Most people think that the only phones that will ever get it are the current pixels.

Are there any units with 5x2 icon widescreen layout? I didn’t find any when I was shopping for the Miata.

The wider layout is almost a must have for the home screen with the map, music and HomeKit/calendar layout. It’s super cramped on the standard 4x2 icon layout.

5x2 layout and home screen:

92986

92990

4x2 narrow layout:

92988

92991

I don’t notice a major difference between my wife’s Lexus (5x2) and my Sierra (4x2).

Though one thing I would look at us making sure the screen quality is good, if you can find a way to go see one in person that’s what I would do. Ie the actual LCD on my Sierra is complete trash and takes away from the experience. But then again the Lexus while having a pretty lcd panel isn’t a touch screen so that’s even worse.

Just going to piggy back on this thread and see if anyone knows there's an economic way to upgrade the outdated info system our our 2013 Cayenne to something with Android auto...

That is one thing that is killing me with the RAV I picked up. The system is almost good enough to get away with, except in the day you cant see shit because the screen isn't nearly bright enough.

The biggest problem I have trying to find one is there are so many different options (Sony/Pioneer/Kenwood/Alpine/etc) and each website rates them differently. Crutchfield.ca is the best site I have found that has the right fitment for your car and can supply everything else needed for the install, but again, ratings are all over the place.

How similar are the stock head units/dashboard on those to the Q5? I upgraded my 2013 Q5 with a system called rsnav. Comes with wireless CarPlay/AA and a bunch of other things as it’s essentially an Android tablet.

Www.rsnav.com, check if they work with cayennes

I’ve had a pioneer headunit in my rs4 for a couple years now. CarPlay has been flawless, also added a camera so I don’t run the kids over backing into the garage.

I was looking at some options for my car and found something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33000000887.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.1.31322dd8Hm8mTz

Maybe you can find one for your car?
