View Full Version : Dishwasher filling up afer a cycle?

I'm a little stumped. Dishwasher seems to be washing fine, and draining as part of it's normal cycle. When I open the door, there's no water in there, however, after sitting a few hours, the bottom of the dishwasher seems to have mysteriously filled back up. What gives? Could the fill valve be leaking?

Hah, that bring back bad memories.

Pilot light is out causing water to not evaporate. This does not happen with a Cove or Miele. Trust me. I read a wikipedia article on thermodynamics once. - GIT /threadx2

Check the drain for a plug or drain pump might have something stuck in the impeller blade usually those are the most common issues. Also check the drain hose you might have some gunk built up in there.

Plus one on pulling the drain impeller/pump and cleaning it out.

Be careful while you do it though, had the same issue happen but it was a broken chunk of a wine glass that got in that was in there which obviously you don’t want to be feeling around blind with glass in there. Just a tip.

I mean I can, but it drains fine, and then fills up like half a day later.

Fine while it’s running and spinning, but something fucking up the seal allowing it to back flow sounds like a potential issue.

Also consider where the water is coming from, is it your sink draining into the dishwasher?

Could also be the fill solenoid (or whatever it’s called), easy to replace. Your water line has positive pressure so if the solenoid isn’t closing it will slowly fill up. Just had to fix that on my last Bosch for a different reason (solenoid cracked and was leaking into pan).

If it fills up after it drains you might want to take a look at the check valve then.

I've got a dishwasher im about to throw out. Maybe the checkvalve flapper will fit? Frigidaire

I guess either the drain line check valve or the fill line solenoid valve really has to be the culprit.

Such a waste of perfectly good dish racks. You must come from a rich family.

Clean water - valve
Dirty water - pipe backing up. Very common these days the solids tends to get stuck and eventually fills the pipe with crud. One case was dog food down the garburetor and expanded in the pipes causing blockage.

Another issue could be just food particles like peas, sliced almonds, rice getting stuck in the around the impeller area. There's usually a cover you can pop out held with a Torx screw and you can clean past the opening.

You guys know I'm not..... Quick, right? Anyway, 99% sure this is the fill valve so just shutting off water supply after each cycle. Work has been mostly busy this week, and heading out of town for a few days with the kids. Will sort it out Sunday probably. Order parts Monday.

My Bosch diswasher was doing that, would slowly fill when off unless I shut the water off. Replaced the water inlet valve and now it's fine. Cost ~$50 from Amre Supply. My hose clamp no longer kept enough tension on the hose so I had a bit of a leak but once I put a new hose clamp in the water inlet hose there's been no issues and the dishwasher doesn't fill up anymore. This shows what I replaced on mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5nygF7meKQ

So took it apart Sunday to find part number, because I couldn't figure it out from the dishwasher model number. Amre didn't have my fill valve in stock, but reliable parts did. Picked it up and installed this morning. Running test rinse now to see if I've left any leaks.

Really simple job for anyone. Hardest part was figuring out which valve I needed. Bosch had used a few.

Definitely worth pulling the whole unit out to fix a dishwasher btw.

Much easier. I think the Bosch had wheels?

No need to pull this out, easy access from front.

Had a small leak at the brass elbow. Took it apart. Wrapped it with new Teflon tape. Testing for leaks again.

Just following up, replacing the water inlet valve has solved my issue. The bottom hasn't been filling up with water overnight at all. Thumbs up for those who assisted me in diagnosis.

You only replaced the Band-Aid. The root cause is still the thermocouple.
