Tavarish just posted this. It's interesting because he claims that he wouldn't take a pagani or something over the DBS. I'm not sure on that, but I get his point. If someone handed me a Pagani, I would probably sell it, and buy something that I can actually use. So what's yours?

And, they've depreciated like an FF or GTC-4-LUSSO which is unfair. These are Pininfarina gold with a honking V12 that will soon be much more sought after.

~$250k and approaching appreciation? Fuck, I might just need to make this happen.

Edit - I feel the F40, believe me. Because in many ways that's an earlier FXX that's somehow street legal, and I love that. It's just that I want more than zero street comforts in something I'm not just going to trailer to a track. It's truly a high water mark in Ferrari development; but... It's got to be shaking the fillings out of your teeth. Still a brilliant fusion of art and technology.

Porsche 918 spyder. There's lots of other cars I love, but if I have to actually live with a car I'd pick this one. Timeless looks, easy enough to drive that my family could enjoy it too, not going to depreciate, good build quality. I don't really want a race car for the street, Heim joints and stiff springs are fun on track, but really reduce the enjoyment on public roads.

But if we’re talking money is no object, how about the Mercedes proof of concept car they did where they plopped the portal axles from the 4x4^2 into the offroady E450? Take that baby and swap in the E63s powertrain and interior. That would be my cost is no object year round DD I think.

Don’t even need studs. The rear weight biased gives an unbelievable amount of acceleration grip, and 50/50 under braking lots of braking grip too. If anything, studs would ruin cornering speeds when there’s a dry corner. That car was made for good performance winters.

This is a really difficult question and there are so many variables -

Is it my one and only car (Audi RSQ8)?

Can I sell it and use the proceeds (Stirling Moss' 300SLR worth >US$100MM)?

Do I presume that if money is no object for one single car, then I have all the money I want for other cars as well and I'm basically just naming the most expensive car I'd buy (McLaren F1)?

Can I has 5 cars instead?

Wife's kid hauler - Lincoln Navigator (until the new Escalade lands)
Vaguely practical car for "dad duties" - Audi RSQ8
Bad ass "daily" driver - Ferrari 812 GTS
Nostalgic bedroom poster car - 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 w/ GT body
Crown Jewel - McLaren F1

Edit - damnit, I'd want a vintage car too (Ferrari 250SWB)... And maybe an F50 instead of the Diablo. But then, where can I slot in a Carrera GT? And then for a vintage car, maybe I want something even more striking, like a DB4GT Zagato. But if my main concern with the vintage car isn't performance, but rather, aching beauty, what about an Alfa Romeo T33 Stradale? :banghead:

Why 996? I've got a boner for a 997.2. I almost bought a 996 but I just couldn't get over a 15-year-old 500hp twin-turbo for a daily driver lol.

I have always loved how they look, especially the face-lifted headlights (I know, blasphemy right?). I drove a 964 C2 and really didn't like it all that much, steering and brakes were far too heavy for how slow that car was. I figure any classic Porsches through the 993s aren't too much different (not having driven them) and I think 991s and newer look too large for the classic, more oval headlights. Plus Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed where the 996 GT1 car is the best car in the game. I played that game lots back in the day. 997s are fine looking, but 991s and 992s just look too big (992s especially with the much more arched body work on the rear quarter).

I feel you. I don't care about the headlights. I'd have bought it if I had more than a single-car garage lol.
