Have a wifi modem in my house connected to a coaxial in the living room. Would like it moved to a coaxial that is upstairs.

Looks like I have two coaxials in my basement that are just cut, so assume one is the one I want..any way for me to tell?

Do I just assume that one of those cut ones should go out to the coaxial in my upstairs den, as there is a coaxial outlet? Any way to tell without just trial and error?

I have zero zip nada for experience... I think Shaw just chose the coaxial it did in the living room as that’s where the previous home owner was setup. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, just want to have my wifi closer to computers and ps4

If you have nothing connected ot the other end - short out the basement coax (shield to core) and then do a continuity test on the other end with a multi meter.

Sorry... what do you mean shield to core? Like I said, I don’t do electronics!

Might be the camera, but is the cable on the left flat?

Core is the wire in the center. Shielding is the metal weaved cable around the outside. Make them touch, and use a multimeter with resistance testing at the other end to see if it's open or closed.

^ what he said - you can use a paper clip too (among other metallic objects)

Thanks gents. And then I can just connect the coax to where the current one is, and I can move the router upstairs? Should I just put a connector on the two cut ones, while at it?

You can leave alone the 1 that you dont need, and just connectorize the one you need.

Got it! Went from like 30 MBPS speed on my PS4 to 100+ by getting it in same room!
