Looking for info on a specific Alberta CPA who had "conditions" on his registration, and in the listing it shows a "Mutual Recognition Agreement". What the hell is that? Is there somewhere I can look up what this guy did, or what reason he has a condition?

Are you trying to dig up dirt on your wife's boyfriend again? You are going to have to try harder.

I think it basically means that the CPA has a recognized open relationship with foreign accounting organizations. In short, he gets to bang foreign accountants without reprecussion.

So more of a accreditation thing, than something relating to discipline? I may have information that this individual has some unethical behaviour. Considering reporting him.

From that link it’s way more likely they were a former CMA or CGA and were granted the CA when they amalgamated rather than earning the CA designation outright.

Either way ES, pretty sure you can blow the whistle on them.

CMA, CGA, CA are all granted the new CPA title.

CAs are pissed because that diluted the pool as CMA/CGA required less effort to attain.

But the end goal is international alignment so a Canadian CPA and now work in US and soon UK if they reciprocate the fast track certification process like Canadian CPA has set up.

End of the day, all that mean is lowering cost of the big 3 with more people allowed to work.

Spotted the CA Xtrema. You all are like white collar, prissy as fuck, EITs. It's been like 7 years and you still can't get over it. ;)

In January 2013, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) established CPA Canada. In October 2013, CPA Canada signed an agreement to merge with Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA-Canada), which occurred on October 1, 2014, completing integration of the country’s national accounting bodies.

BC definitely won't let this go....

Members in BC who became CPAs through either a legacy certification program or legacy membership agreement may only use or display the CPA designation if it is followed by their applicable legacy designation (i.e. “CPA, CA”; “CPA, CGA”; or “CPA, CMA”). Members who became CPAs by passing the Common Final Exam or through a newly negotiated CPA membership agreement may use “CPA” only.

Maybe Xtrema is the one that ExtraSlow is whistleblowing on. That would be something.

In case anyone was wondering, you cannot send an anonymous complaint to the CPA association. Good way to cut down on complaints against well connected people I suppose.

well that seems... unreasonable, but I just checked and APEGA has the same limitation: https://www.apega.ca/enforcement/complaints/investigations/licensed-complaints
