Hello,

For those of you who need an engine for your Supra 7M-GTE I would like to give you my suggestions based on what I went through.

First off, JDM engines are usually very good for Hondas or maybe a camry, etc.

What i noticed with several JDM 7mgte engines is that as soon as they are fired up they knock, bad heads, everything imaginable.

Buying a 7MGTE JDM for a rebuild is ok. Avoid paying more then $1000 Canadian for one.

JSpec Auto (Montreal) again good honest company, their 7MGTES usually are the best but again make sure you know what you are buying.

Street Imports, (Ontario) good engines, good service but searching the the internet i have found 2 people who had trouble with their 7mgte (considering its not a common engine and iwas able to find them easly) One of my favorites, Again, highly recommended for Honda engines.

Calgary companies:
Yoko Tire - Good for honda engines, for 1JZ ok. not for 7MGTE. I purchased one for 1500 cdn, was told low milege, head gasket went about 2 months after and it knocked as soon as we put it in, we even drove the car there. they said itwas installed wrong. I dont blame them cause they dont really import this engine so it makes sense. again I like them for honda enginges.

JDMSource. Again these are very honest with their engines.

Best bet is to buy one and rebuild yours, even it costs you 2grand.

DO NOT FIX YOUR HEAD GASKET AT STAMPEDE TOYOTA. I LOST ABOUT $4000 doing that. Dont believe me, met up with me! a calgary lawyer already is looking to sue. Do not take your Supra to any dealership PERIOD. take it to Import Car Specialist. (Reg Reimer founded it) You get what you pay for, and you get honesty)

General Suggestions we all know.
-Always turbo time your supra after driving rough
-try to use Red Toyota Coolant
-Try to change oil every 1500 miles or less, Mobile 1 Green lid 10w snythentic
-Don't waste your time racing minivans or mustangs
-Keep the supra respectable car, don't put some cheezy mufler.
-Torge your head to 72lbs if possbile use ARP bolts
-keep your intercooler, radiator area clean
-For your valve covers, try to use bolts instead of those factory screws, new seals wont hurt.
Your powering steer container always looks old and aged. keep good hoses connected to it and you will be fine
-A downpipe (without catcon) with full 3" to the muffler can really add power to your car and increase MPG (like in Japan)
If you drive you Supra in winter, it can be the best winter car (considering most of them are 5000 pounds and higher) if you have the right snow tires. The heat is great!
DO nto use Bocsh or non Japesese Spark Plugs.
A secret, is Part Source DOES NOT Have the right ones, even if they say they are. I learned that the HARD way. Best is to buy NGK ones specific to your car. 87/88 and 89+ are different!

People claim the Supra is not a reliable car. thats wrong. when its not taken care of it wont be reliable!

Clutch, DO NOT BUY DYNAPAK for a supra! no matter if you burn out or not! they are over priced (cost $200 more then the rebuid ones at Toyota) and last less. They retial for 640 part source, 550 at Parts Unlimited. A Toyota one is still better but your better off getting a preformance one even if you drive like an oldman. They are expensive, about 600 but they will last you!

Knock Sensor Code 51. Most of the time people go out and pay hundreds for new knock sensors. most of the time its the wiring. They connectors get old and sometimes need to be reweird directly to the ECU. there are a lot of notes on this issue.

Battery, do not buy anything from CANADIAN TIRE. their batteries are GARBAGE, their CS sucks. just go to partsource, they have different batteries, more parts, (they are affliated) same part numbers, but the best CS you can find. the honor exchanges and refunds without an invoice , just need your phone number. They understand the Part Industry like no one else.

No such thing as a 6M-GTE, they only produced the 6M in naturally aspirated (6M-GE).

correct. the 5mgte and 6mgte are just basically nicknames or invented engine codes for running the 7mgte factory ct26 turbo/manifold/downpipe on the 5mge/6mge engines. everything bolts up with no serious mechanical mods, so its a popular option.
