AMD's Zen 3 architecture brings a massive improvement to IPC and that is reflected in the latest PassMark benchmark list where the Ryzen 5 5600X CPU has just claimed the top position in the single-threaded performance charts.

AMD. Not Intel, Is Now The Single-Threaded Performance Champ - Ryzen 5 5600X $299 "Zen 3" CPU Claims Top Position in PassMark
Spotted by Videocardz, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X "Zen 3" Desktop CPU now holds the top position in the PassMark single-threaded benchmark list. The CPU which is going to be positioned against the Intel Core i5-10600K exceeds the single-threaded performance of the Core i9-10900K which is very impressive.

Passmark isn't the greatest benchmark but nevertheless seeing the 5600x take a full 10% lead is pretty impressive.

Regarding CPU price/performance ratio - I've used this chart a few times - assuming its at least somewhat accurate. Intel appears to be taking a beating - double the cost than AMD in many cases in terms of Single CPU performance (not single thread).

Here is the same graph for Single THREAD performance (Intel wins, until they update the chart)

Ryzen 3000 / Zen 2 already caught up to Intel IPC (beat it in some cases) and Ryzen 5000 / Zen 3 blew it out of the water.

If you consider that Zen 3 has ~19% IPC gain, something like a 5950X running at 5Ghz is in theory like an Intel 10 series running at ~6.3 Ghz :nut:

Looking forward to the third party objective testing though, just to confirm things.
