Someone calls in a complaint about too many people on the ODR and adjacent skate park. Bylaw shows up, calls in CPS for help and they ask everyone to leave the rink and the skate park. Most do but one guy doesn't. Female CPS Karen him into submission (eventually) and they use a knife to take his skates off.

This is a no win situation for these ladies. They are shown to be completely ineffective when physical force is attempted but what can they do, taser the guy? That wouldn't be reasonable. Just let him go? Can't do that either. Call in the big strong men to help them out? Nope.

I have three questions out of this:

1. The guy had skates on, just move a few feet back, it's not like anyone with boots on would be able to catch him...lol.
2. On a serious notes, the rinks aren't closed, they just have capacity & usage rules. How is it that bylaw & CPS can just demand everyone on the rink and the skate park leave all together?
3. Why take a knife to the skates, how is that easier than just untying them? It's pretty obvious that was just a "fuck you" to the guy, wrecking his property.

It started on Thursday afternoon when bylaw officers responded to reports of 40-plus people crowding the Southwood community rink and skatepark.

“A peace officer came sat in this car and got out and… told skateboarders we have to go and [were] not allowed to be there and we all refused and he called for backup for other police to come,” Sanoubar said.


Corwin Odland, with CPS public affairs, said people refused to disperse from an outdoor skating area after being advised that they were violating public health orders.

“When our officers arrived, they spoke to the same people about the health orders and several left without incident.

“When told he was being ticketed for not leaving, he refused to identify himself and skated away from the officers,” Odland said.

Police said the individual refused to identify himself when asked to do so by an officer. He was charged with obstruction of justice.

“The officers explained this legal requirement to the man and tried multiple times to get him to voluntarily step off the ice and comply with their orders before they moved in to physically take him into custody. At this point, a struggle ensued and an officer was knocked to the ground,” Odland said.

“We are seeing officers continually put into these untenable positions where they have to diffuse and support bylaw,” Ayliffe said. “What’s happening through our lens is good people are trying to find pieces of what they want to do in a changing environment and it is stressing people out to the max.”

Hockey clearly can not happen under these restrictions. Olympic oval skating, there are secondary rules specific to this facility since it’s a large area. The total capacity raised to 100 people, 2m restriction from people outside your household.

My record isn't so clean. Been in cuffs 4 times and in the back of the car twice. Have never been transported away from a "scene" before, nor any charges.

I have told both my kids that when it comes to the cops:
1) comply with every order given immediately
2) be respectful
3) no resistance at all

Arguing with the cops is never going to end well. EVER. If there has been a wrong doing by the cops, it is never wise to challenge them right then and there. Patience is key, and use the courts. That's where you can have your fun. When you start running your mouth and acting "morally superior" you get this asshat in the video. He escalated it 100%. What would have been a verbal talking to and everyone going their separate ways, he decided to show off to his friends, and now he has very real charges that will 100% stick, and a very real criminal record that will follow him around for the rest of his life. Hope he got to go to Vegas for his 21st before this.

So I'm going to admit that I didn't even think about cutting the laces on the skates (DUH!) vs. untying them, I just pictured the cops slicing through the side of the skate boot itself like they do with boots when someone suffers a foot injury (think broken ankle in a cowboy boot). My kids are under 5 so if your children are over 20 this might be a bit small for them. In Aspen you could probably have a full size rink for a real hockey game.

No most of the white folks think this was way too tame and wish he'd been tazered or hit with pepper spray :) It's the "police brutality! covid is fake!" snowflakes who are upset, the rest of us wish some street justice was handed out.

Then again, hockey career boy... He's the one who's gotta walk into a locker room in the next weeks/months... And face the team ridicule of public pictures of his ass getting handed to him by a couple girls. :rofl:

They told him several times why, and he kept asking "What's a health regulation?" He was just being belligerent. The fact all his friends were off the ice, and telling him to shutup and leave with them, speaks volumes.

No doubt he is being belligerent but just saying "going against the health regulation" is not really proper. He has every right to ask what that regulation is and if they don't know it or can't tell him what it is, he is kind of in the right in my opinion to want clarification. If he was skating away from them, or being physically combative then a take down is warranted for sure, but if all he is doing is forcing them to clarify the regulation before complying I am not unsympathetic to his reasoning. That isn't to say it wasn't clarified before the video started and he is dead wrong, but if what is in the video is what it is, I don't think he is necessarily in the wrong legally.

That said it seems like a silly hill to die on, and as I said above, challenging cops comes with a risk, but the day we just roll over every single time because we are told to right or wrong is the day laws don't have to be followed by those that enforce them and that is not good either.
