So McLaren launched the Artura today.

I have no interest. Derivative, boring styling. It looks like a generic supercar shape. Kinda boring side intakes a la 488, with a taycan looking front end. Not ugly, but very uninspired. It looks like the GTA model of a generic supercar.

I have no interest in a downgrade from a V8 to a V6 hybrid. I dont care about the performance gains.

SSO, were you at the launch?

Here is JWW doing a reveal. It was the only video I found, so trigger warning if douchey-ness triggers you.

Mclaren and derivative?

Say it ain’t so!

Tbh to me it looks like a softer huracan.

They're all kinda boring looking cars IMO in regards to supercars...

I love how McLaren finally put a mechanical LSD in this car. I mean don’t get me wrong, their open diff brake steer worked really well, just kinda funny they rode that for so long.

I like this car, from the not over the top clean styling, to the drivetrain. You haters don’t know what you’re missing with turbo power for us up in the mountains but with the instant responsiveness of a massive NA motor.

I wasn't at the launch, wrong side of the Atlantic. Not thrilled about the missing two cylinders but that does seem the direction everyone is going in.

Here's a better video:

Something about the front looks like it's related to a Ford Fusion...

I am going to be the outlier and say that I really like it. I like how McLaren was using the hybrid model to make the engines more mental in the P1 by using the electric part to supplement the power curve in the petrol engine and hope that this means that technology will trickle down into the more affordable cars. I like that approach more so than what Porsche is doing with movement towards models like the taycan.
Enjoy the last few years of petrol fun as its not going to last.....

Wow .. I love it! Good to see it still RWD, light weight, and no reverse gear is a smart design!

~$350K, lower than the F8 and way lower than the ~$850-900K SF90.

670 HP Hybrid, super light weight at 3300lb (I think this is much lighter than 918, SF90 etc)

I like the style, I think its an upgrade from the 570s. I am on the fence about the V6, but it produces more power. Might have to trade in for one next year.

I also like the recipe.

So question is, I think this is 3300 dry, so it’ll be 3500 curb weight. Still lightish, but only 150bs lighter than a GT350R, for context.

But V6 and 8500rpm. Crazy.

The styling overall is fine. The V6 and an ipad battery is not.

people bitched about the Ford GT, but after launch I think it's a successful platform still.

I forgot about the SF90. Now I need to dig up that post from the member that needed our help to pick out his colours and options. I bet he's really enjoying definitely his definitely existing vehicle...

Overall I would tend to agree. I think they got a lot right with the Artura.

E53 AMG is currently the cheapest performance hybrid car on the market today. E motor for torque fill at low revs, e turbo compressed air to intake at low revs, redirected to the turbine to aid spool up at high revs to eliminate turbo lag. Next year the c43 amg and c63 amg will be even cheaper with newer versions of the tech.

It’s already trickled down.

Aesthetically, I like it. Sure, completely agree that it looks like a generic GTA "supercar", but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Driveability-wise, powertrains like this seem great... but I don't like it. I'd much prefer a traditional gas-only powertrain, preferably naturally aspirated.

Moot point since I'm not remotely in the market for one of these cars.

That is excellent news about the C's might be time to trade in for a new one when that comes out.

I actually like JayEmm's channel. He brings a normal and vaguely cynical approach to his commentary.

How much of an effect do you think this will have on 570 or 720 values?

I'd much rather have a bargain priced 720 than this.

SSO

My guess would be minor impact on 570S prices, not much on 720S.

Would it be more applicable to see how Honda Ridgeline or Toyota Camry prices will be impacted by the release of the Artura? It would be worthwhile to look at both ends of spectrum regarding what Buster will actually end up buying, wouldn’t it?

I think it’s safe to say that the release of the Artura will have no measurable material impact on either Toyota Camry or Honda Ridgeline valuations.

Glad we cleared that up though.
