View Full Version : BMW 135...should I keep it?

Any BMW enthusiasts want to chime in? Because I'm not really a BMW enthusiast but I bought my 2012 135 6mt in June and while I LOVE the car, I might be moving to BC and don't want to deal with OPP inspection and mainly want an excuse to go back to a 370Z (I still prefer the Z).

Anyways, what I want to know is....are these cars going up in value? Even the ones like mine that have the N55?

I've had it on Kijiji through the winter and I got offers for around 13 mostly...but the last couple of weeks, I've had 14.5 and 15 offers.

I took my ad down as soon as I started noticing other ads for 135s asking way more. In the past week, I've seen people on kijiji asking for 17, 18 for older years. Even a few that are like mine with the less desirable N55.

I know these cars are starting to become more sought after, so I'm wondering, should I just keep it in hopes of getting more money for it?

Mine has a clean history and 110K...6mt, no sport seats, but does have Brembos and M Sport rims and it's black on black (which I think is more sought after color, most seem to be white).

I heard Nissan is always wrong answer.
The concept of an appreciating BMW is foreign to me.
Asking price is not selling price.

If you don’t want it get rid of it.

I’d drive a 370Z back to back with it so you can make sure you actually want to be driving something that slow. No arguing with people who like Nissan’s.

2 series is better in every way, and very common, so it’s tough to think as to why a 1 series would ever get more valuable. N55 vs N54 is a pretty tired debate.

I owned a 370Z for 3.5 yrs lol...plus numerous other Nissan/Infinitis...I guess I'm a bit of "fanboy".

Are the 2 series really better in every way???? Again, I'm not an enthusiast but I was under the impression that anything after this gen of BMW moved to electric steering and people don't like it one bit. Are you only talking about the M2? or just the regular 228/235?...in fact, one of the things I enjoy more about the 135 over the 370z is the steering feel.

Haha good point...I guess part of me just wants to be an owner of the new S2000. One can dream....but the early 2000s M3s are highly sought after no?

Not an Aspen guy, need to consider the financial aspects haha

The 2 has electric steering if that bothers you. There will always be something to nitpick between generations.

I don’t think there is anything financially savvy about keeping a 12 year old BMW around, then again cars are usually poor financial decisions. If you are going to make a poor financial decision, it might as well be for a car you like.

I still maintain, if you don’t want it get rid of it.

My take on it is values will be pretty stable these days, possibly 3-5 years in the future maybe a small uptick. In my opinion all pre F30/F80 BMW cars are going to be more desirable eventually, and after that the real stand out is M240i-M2-M2C-M2CS as the only semi compact semi light BMWs left (and hopefully the forthcoming G87). I don’t think you can bank on making money in any sense, but it could be a relatively low depreciation car from now on. Your car is kind of in the middle mileage wise for cars now, it’s no collector and doesn’t really have any stand out options or weird config either that might help it down the road. 135i production and sales numbers weren’t exactly ever rare.

That car will not be the next S2000. Absolutely zero chance.

At best, values will stay flat, but you'll have to spend money to keep it on the road. Even on the off chance it appreciates (again, highly unlikely IMO), running costs will likely outpace appreciation. edit: another factor for this is mileage - 100k is too much for a car to retain a lot of value/appreciate, that's very much in the "daily driver" category. That accounts for >50% price difference in an S2000, where a driver would be ~$20k and a lower mileage one could be >$30k.

My vote is sell it and buy the car you want.

Is the 1M still worth a premium? That is the only BMW I remember being worth significantly more than it's age/MSRP would suggest.

Yes still worth a lot of money. E39, E46, E90/92, E60, E85/86 etc are all a lot more money than previously now, including non M cars too in some cases (E39, E46 for sure).

1M is a completely different conversation. I’d kill for one.

Apparently they are incredibly over-hyped, and actually not that good. I wouldn't know as I've never driven one, but they are definitely cool IMO.

I think a manual 1M would be a fun garage partner for the M2

Yes, I suppose I had forgotten about that. Moreso in Laguna Seca Blue or that MustardBarf color, though.

M2/M2C/M2CS is a better car in every way except for rarity.

I think you sound like an M fanboy, in which case the 1M is a perfect buy for you.

I think I have been very clear as to my M fanboy status. I just haven’t bothered to get off my wallet and buy one until recently.

I'd def buy a Phoenix Yellow Bimmer. They remind me of the hideous SAAB 9-3 in Yellow-Lime from the 2000's - That colour was fantastic too.

Were any of them 370Zs? The only transmission problem with 370Z I believe is 3rd gear grind I believe, and of course, the CSC. Had my 2009 for 3.5 years and sold at 183,000km, no problems whatsoever, owned it since 150,000km....love how your username is power of rotary though haha, the RX8 is one car I've always wanted but too scared...

, the RX8 is one car I've always wanted but too scared...

I've considered it in the past and may yet end up with one. However I would want one with a blown engine as there is much to do in terms of improving on stock, as well as things that a knowledgeable owner would do with one from the start that would guarantee a far longer life.

I think that grind was on 350z and only the ones without the cd009 transmissions. I'm pretty sure they fixed that by the time 370z came around.

Ya, I never had it on my 370....just a tiny bit of 5th gear grind in the mornings when I got the highway, it was the weirdest thing. Never had the paper gasket leak too, but like I said, I bought it at 150,000km so those things may have already been fixed. FUCK I regret selling that car for 10G back when COVID started (back when we really didn't know if the world was going to end or not, also had a dent on the side due to something falling from my garage wall lol).
