View Full Version : Bored? Assess my website!

Stuck at home with nothing to do? Spend a few minutes helping a brother out!

So, I found it difficult to find dress-up accessories for my Range Rover and XF. There is a bit stuff out there, but you either pay dearly from retail shops, or you spend hours looking online for cheap stuff, trying to get the best price and selection, dealing with Chinese vendors and returns.

So I built a site which hopefully alleviates all of that:
http://www.britishtrim.com

Now, I don't need help with my pricing structure. I absorb all shipping expenses and work with low markup, so I really don't need anyone saying "but I searched and found it cheaper on ali". You may. My idea isn't to have the very cheapest prices you can find, but rather to better service the customer.

So, if you guys are bored and have nothing better to do, I would appreciate if some took a few minutes and provide me your general thoughts for any improvements you can see.

Thanks all!

Hate the font but that's subjective.

Great how you can categorize by vehicle, but maybe add a step further (e.g. interior, exterior, lightning etc). Other than that, looks pretty solid!

Website looks very good with no-frills.

Suggestion: On FB your page uses "BritTrim" as the username
Go and take BritishTrim to match your website domain. Also regardless of whether you're using it or not, CLAIM OWNERSHIP! Go and take the same name on every platform you can... instagram, twitter, tiktok
If this goes big enough to sell the business one day, having all of these will help market yourself better.

Good suggestions so far.

Font: As a prior designer, I'm not a fan either. I just wanted a font that was old-school British. If enough don't like it, I'll change it.
Brittrim: Because Britishtrim was taken, oddly enough. As for other domains, if this actually works out, I'll buy as many as I can. They are available, which is something I considered when naming it.
Subcategories: Right now I'm working with the 500 product limit from Shopify. If I get traction, I intend on having thousands of products - and intend to subcategories at that time.

Trim is slang for pussy / getting some pussy. Sounds like an amateur porn site.

that is all.

Well, shit. Might be a little too late to be changing the name. I plan to cater to North Americans mainly, so hopefully you are one of a select few over here to know this.

That's hilarious. But not really.

Was expecting a piece of shit, website actually looks good. Sure if could use some font / color makeovers. I assume you are dropshipping from china based on the shipping times, but a 'spend x to get free shipping' is pretty much a given on any ecomm site.

Sent you a PM also!

Buy those domains and other platform names while you can... As your site gets traction, (bot) squatters will scoop up related names / domains and costs will rise.

I actually like a lot about it! Clean and easy to read and get around. A few details I might like would be some more filters like say I was looking for "interior trim" or "exterior trim" etc just to save scrolling through needless stuff if I was in a hurry, but really that is small potatoes. Only other thing is I think you should make the currency clear ie CDN dollars as it is not clear. Really little stuff but the site is nice man!

Edit - To my point I did find it in the bottom left after the fact. It would be more clear in the top right I think as that seems to be the spot one automatically looks for that.

Came here to mention this after seeing the URL. Since I was a teenager I have heard things like "pulling trim" as another way of saying getting pussy.

I'd say roll with it haha. More people will think it's funny than anything else.

Your website needs a privacy policy that mentions GDPR regulations to be in compliance with the EU.

Hey do you have those lights that go on either side of the licence plate on a L322? The ugly white ones? I have never found like a clear/blackhousing replacement. They updated the taillights in like 2010 but left those ugly oxidized looking lights.

Thanks NZwasp.

Littledan: I do not. In fact, I'm not sure they were ever made. I don't think they look THAT bad - though I did replace my bulbs with LED ones. It's brighter, but the LED bulbs I bought don't have side lights... only forward-facing lights, so it doesn't activate the reflector inside. I might end up buying a different style. LEDs must be no longer than 32mm long, if I remember correctly.

(Though it might improve visibility, it does nothing to hide what you consider to be the ugly lights...)

Honestly, it looks a little dated but it's easy to navigate so that's a plus.

I like everything below the 60% banner, but keep in mind first thing I see when I go to the site is the big G wagon photo, the white space, and the 60% banner.
I feel like a different photo, something a bit more high res would be awesome. The relevant sales promo could somehow be in that cover photo and interactive so it's more intertwined and flows better? If that makes sense. I just find the banner below and the white space to be a bit weird, even if it does the job.

But yeah, once I scroll down, the categories make sense and I like the layout of that.
