The White House says the largest chunk of the proposal includes $621 billion for roads, bridges, public transit, electric vehicle charging stations and other transportation infrastructure. I don't know much, but I don't understand the economics of this. Although money for brides and infrastructure sounds like money for automobile drivers, so that's a big yay, as someone who doesn't pay taxes in that country.

No, there's this rule in the Senate that says bills need 3/5 votes to pass. Exceptions are yearly Reconciliation Bills that only require simple majority but i believe they used that up on the 1.9T stimulus they just passed. There's some weird nuances around the rules so maybe they can somehow figure out a workaround to classify this as Reconciliation. Not holding my breath on that though because Democrats traditionally suck at this stuff.

What they really need to do is eliminate that rule and change all bill passing to simple majority instead of 3/5 (and only requires a simple majority to change it), but there are two conservative/hardline democrats that won't support it. Yes that means the next time republicans have control that they can ram their priorities through, but that's how it should be IMO. Let the governing party govern because people need to understand that elections have consequences.

This one's tone is dialed back:

Modernize 20,000 miles of highways, roads and streets.
Repair 10 of the most significant bridges in need of fixing, and repair 10,000 of the worst, smaller bridges.
Double federal funding for public transportation and bring rail and bus services to communities that have been systematically excluded from those resources.
Build a network of 500,000 electrical vehicle chargers, replace 50,000 diesel transit vehicles and electrify 20% of the yellow bus fleet (school buses).
Provide $50 billion to make infrastructure more climate resilient and target 40 percent of that investment to disadvantaged communities.
Pay for extending broadband to rural Americans, improving water quality, strengthening the electric grid and building affordable housing.
Replace 100 percent of lead pipes and service lines in the U.S., and reduce lead exposure in 400,000 schools and child care facilities.
Spend $400 billion in expanding access to affordable home or community-based care for thousands of seniors and people with disabilities to support long-term care.

But it looks like compromise = nobody is happy.

The smart thing to do would be to convert a nuclear power plant into a solar PV panel plant (silicon ingot production).

It takes a ridonkulous amount of circulated water through a nuclear plant to cool it to a level where it is safe to turn through a turbine. If its too much over 100 celsius without proper pressurization, all you get is steam - which is crap for turning a turbine.

A standard nuke-lar reaction creates the one thing you really need to melt silicon, ridiculous amounts of concentrated heat. The only silicon isotope that might be a problem would be 32si.
