Furnace Thermostat Error Code 53 and 89

Anyone have any tips if I can repair this myself or do I need to call someone?

One of my Honeywell Thermostats started displaying error codes 53 and 89 and the red light turned on (I believe this light refers to an outdoor unit / AC). I do have an A/C unit (York YCJD series) connected to the thermostat.

Since the error started the furnace/heat won't shut off.

Error 53 - Indicates failing outdoor sensor.

Error 89 - Indicates cooling/heating unit missing.

I'm assuming 89 is displayed because the sensor failed. Now my questions is where would this sensor be? Or do I just hire someone? Also if anyone does this or has recommendations on someone to call let me know.

Honeywell, eh...
Disconnect the thermostat and/or do whatever restart procedure is required on the thermostat.
This will be a thermostat issue and not a furnace issue. Most specifically, a Honeywell issue.

Forgot to mention:

I actually have two of the same thermostats in the house so I took the one that wasn't displaying errors and moved it to the error location and it started showing the errors as well. That should eliminate it being a thermostat issue shouldn't it?

Disclaimer: I know nothing so when I say I moved the thermostat I'm referring to the display/wall unit only. I'm guessing there is another part to the thermostat on the furnace side?

Look up support info for whatever model on Honeywell's site and find out how to restart it.
The thermostat is simply on the wall. It's receiving signals and information from devices "within the furnace".

Tried the reset procedure and no luck. After a few minutes it started displaying error 89 and the red light came on again. No error 53 yet.

Hmmm... Is the furnace working properly as far as you can't tell?

Yes it's still pumping out heat and won't stop. Just won't turn off from the thermostat. Have to turn it off from the power in the basement.

It's not wireless but also I didn't replace the battery. Instead I took my main floor thermostat and tested it upstairs were the error code thermostat is and the replacement thermostat displayed the same code.

I felt I was onto something from reading online that this could be a blown fuse for the A/C unit however I can't locate a fuse. The outdoor panel doesn't have a fuse in it. Unless I have to open the A/C unit panel which I don't really want to do. I've booked a service call but still have a week to try and solve this.

Mine is wireless and it does this when the battery dies. Didn't sound like your issue, but an easy thing to eliminate.

True. Ordered a battery and will eliminate this on Thursday.

Replaced battery and still the same issue. Looked at the furnace today and the light is flashing 2 red blinks, pause, and then 4 red blinks. Can't figure out what that means. I'll just sit and wait until Wednesday for the tech.

Darell_n The furnace is a Lennox el296uh070xv36b - 05 and the thermostat is Honeywell TH9421C1004

So technician came today and says the Equipment Interface Module is dead and also discontinued so I have to replace it as well as a new thermostat. I guess I'll start hunting online for this to see if I can find one. It's a Honeywell THM5421C if anyone has access to one. It would save me a few dollars for sure.

Don't buy a Honeywell anything if you can avoid it.

His suggestion was a newer Honeywell. The reason the module died is because the original installer mounted it below the humidifier and it leaked.

Lucked out and found a new module on Kijjiji in Montreal for $20. Arrived today and the box had never been opened. Took ten minutes to swap and everything is working again. Much better then the $400.00 quote to replace the thermostat and module.
