I thought I would give Turo and just having major issues with my DL.
"After reviewing the information you provided us, we’re sorry to report that we’re not able to approve you to participate in the Turo marketplace because your driver’s license is either currently invalid, temporary, expired or will expire in the next two months, or we cannot otherwise verify the validity of your license."

Anyone else ever had issues trying to get verified and approved on Turo? Is it because Alberta has #'s instead of the alphabet for their classes? My DL was recently renewed in June 2021 so it's not close to invalid, temporary, or expired.

I've tried with two different chat reps.. time to give up I guess

This is happening to my friends right now too, they can't figure out why they're blacklisted from the app.....

It sucks because Turo would have been $300 cheaper than a rental company. I just closed my account.. wasted 3 hours of my life chatting with these chat reps

BC also has numbers for classes. Don't all provinces?

GDL license?

This could be it, thanks - never bothered getting my full license as I didn't feel there was a benefit except for cleaning up demerits or being able to officially drink alcohol.

Many think a GDL is a full class 5 and its not. A lot of insurance companies want a full class 5 for situations like this.

That didn't exist when I was young, but have you run into any problems with GDL and renting vehicles?

I got my license shortly after the GDL program was implemented. No issues at all with GDL and renting vehicles.. no one has every asked on inquired.

Looks like I'll need to get my full license something this year.. too bad I just renewed my license 3 months ago. I assume I will have to pay for a new card.

I'm only a few short years away from needing to know the ins and outs of the GDL process for my kids. I'd better learn up.

I sat on my GDL for years, when I was searching for jobs 4 years ago I upgraded it just in case it became an issue with company vehicles.

Gdl also means 0 tolerance for alcohol (or at least it did). Would suck balls to go for a single beer and go thru a checkstop and get a dui. That was enough of a reason for me personally.

It’s not a DUI just a registry suspension, doesn’t even show up for insurance. I got two fuck was it annoying. Not even close to drunk but got the suspension obviously.

There basically isn’t any tolerance for BAC anymore anyway.

Well clearly I’m out of the loop.

I’ve always thought up to two beers when I’m out for wings is safe but apparently I need to refresh my knowledge.

Criminally? You are probably safe.

Can they still ruin your day over it? Absolutely.

Combine that with that they no longer need reasonable suspicion to make you blow, and that they can make you blow 2 hours after you get out of the vehicle.

Ubers are cheap

MADD has lobbied heavily for murderers who have a couple beers with food.

Basically this.
They can sort of, essentially give you a 24hr because feelings now.

There's a big difference between the criminal threshold that requires a full and fair trial and the admistrative roadside "no recourse" threshold for people with a GDL. There's also the in between administrative roadside thing for people with an adult license.

I advise not to chance any of them, regardless of your license status. But the "ruin your day" vs "ruin your life" is a big gap.

Ever wonder how many lives were saved because of the gdl system?

0.

Honestly I wonder if the governemnt has incidents comparing gdl vs full dl after 2, 5, 10 and 15 years

For all the GDLs, we all just waiting for the day they announce the program is abolished and we all automatically get full Class 5.

I got refused a rental in Nanaimo with a GDL with I think Budget. Went next door to enterprise and no problem.

Did upgrade since I wanted the ability to have 1 beer and not be afraid

IMO, if you ain't leaving Alberta there isn't much discrimination against GDL.

Moving to Ontario? Prepare to get raped by insurance, even more than usual as one my cousins recently learnt.

I discriminate against GDL. It's a license for children.

Every person who "refuses to upgrade GDL" sounds like someone who would fail the exam. I passed on the first attempt with no issues. I barely missed the cutoff. It wasn't implemented when I got my learners at 14, but it was in place when I got my license at 16, and I upgraded when I was 20.
More demerits, no more "zero tolerance" alcohol, and you can sit with a learner's permit. Also one less thing to worry about in these scenarios.
