The new MR version looks to make the Evo an even more enjoyable ride with the addition of a larger turbocharger for improved low- and mid-range power and an extra gear in the form of a new 6-speed gearbox. The MR also sheds about 300 pounds, thanks to a new aluminum roof and lightweight alloy BBS wheels. Improved handling is achieved with even stickier Yokohama Advan tires, revised suspension and Mitsubishi’s famous active center differential, helping to elevate its skidpad number from 0.88g in stock form to a whopping 0.98g for the MR.

Awww sheit STI, look out! If the Evo was a close contender before, this car is gonna rock it hard!

0.98G on the skid pad is amazing.
I'm not sure sure that an aluminum roof and lighter rims would be 300lbs though. There must be something more to the Evo's weight loss...

the evo mr has AC, a stereo, and a wing. The 2004 Evo RS is the model without those items

you should see the Evos they get in Europe. Some of them weigh less then 2700lbs and do 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds or something. No sound deadening though :D

I looked at the specs and they arent much different from the original evo VIII. This model is maily a better handling car but thats about it, well thats what the specs say. It just has a better torque curve and better at high speeds but the stock evo has a .98 skid pad, and hp ratings are the same. Both sweet cars but if its 300lbs lighter then why isnt the specs better???

Sounds like the Lancer RS... But with wing and a bigger turbo.
Here's the rest of the pics and article:

If theyre looking to cut pounds by taking away the creature comforts...maybe they should just make a friggin 2 door or a 3 door hatch....

take out 2 doors, the back seats and shorten the wheelbase. Save another 200lbs
