I'm planning out my new garage and want something different then the paper/pencil route i've been going.
Anyone have any suggestions for simple programs I can use to help lay out garage cabinets, stairs, lift, etc?

I've found no single tool thats "great" at everything. I've used floorplanner.com, smartdraw, sketchup (online and a windows install), and visio. All have pros/cons.

Honestly for a quick layout like what you're describing; give floorplanner or smartdraw a try. If you've undergone a lot of past visio suffering and happen to own a copy; I was quite happy with my visio floorplan of my basement.

I like smartdraw & floorplanner, just sucks as they are all a trial so you can only use it for so long.

I used sketchup for my basement development. With a few youtube videos I got the hang of it and I liked that I could put in common appliances to help me visualize the space. I did the same for my garage layout but it was already built at the time.
