Expat Pensions Financial Advice

Been meaning to get around to this for a little bit now, just never managed to get my ducks in a row as t'were

The pandemic seems to have been favourable to the funds I have my pensions in the UK invested into, and I'd quite like to move them over here into an RRSP if I can

Does anyone have a recommendation for a financial advisor who might have the knowledge of doing this or would know where to start?

Can't do it anyway, QORPS rules don't allow it

Best advice I got was to combine my available pensions into one and make it easier to manage.

Suppose I could just aggressively invest with them, since I'll probably never get anything out of them anyway

Eventually you'll be able to withdraw from them?

By the time I'm aged to retire, pensions won't exist, all that money will be lost somewhere and the British Pound will be worth nothing

I'll probably never be in a financial position to retire anyway so not much point in worrying about it, leave it to the executor of my "estate" :rofl:

I don't have actual knowledge on this particular area.
I know there are some tax treaties. But this question has come up a few times on the expat community.

What kind of pension is it? Dc or db? If it’s dc (which it appears it is since you imply you can be aggressive with it), it’s your money and will still exist even if the public pensions don’t.

Yeah they're DC pensions, they might well exist in 35 years, but they'll definitely be worthless at that point haha

What's the penalty to withdraw early if it's a DC plan? Can you even?

You can't withdraw early from them, unless you've got less than 2 years contributions, which I'm sure I exceed on the two with any (current) value

I used it a decade ago when going through the immigration process. There was some useful advice given and taken.
I thought there might be some direction or links on there as it would be a common question.

The other option is the Facebook group 'British Expats in Calgary'. My life agent guy also works with funds and bringing them over. I can ask him.
It also depends on the size of the fund, your age and where you are in your own personal investment cycle. But like you said, it might be worth combining it with existing funds. Keep it simples...
That being said. I don't think the British Pound will be worth nothing. I think its the opposite. I am very optimistic on that currency. Its a good long bet. But thats a whole different discussion.
