Anyone had issues connecting AP’s on a Telus home network? They worked at my old house, they work at work, but now it either says unable to connect or gets hung up 95% on the bar when connecting, tried resetting, tried different Ethernet cables, tried connect straight to the modem… any one with any insight? I need better wifi lol

Factory reset, use poe but dont connect to yoir network. Use the unifi app on your phone to connect to the management wifi within 5min of power cycling it.

-factory reset
-Connect Poe to AP, no lan
-power cycle AP or modem?
-connect to AP with QR code?

Sorry I’m a network dunce

I assume you are running a controller somewhere?

I never use the app for anything

No controller always just standalone the AP’s had 3 running at my old place..

Hmm. Never tried that. I’d say that’s a pretty non standard implementation.

I’d recommend using a controller. Give you a lot of control and insight.

You don’t need to run it all the time if you don’t want to. Just when you make changes or want to see what’s going on.

Is the dream machine what would be used? That’s an expensive piece! Haha

Unifi APs require a controller so that they can be accessed from a single device for configuration and such.

This can be accomplished in many ways.. Docker, your computer or even a secondary computer. Unifi makes special hardware for controllers but its a big price.

I setup a docker container on a low power device to run the controller software as well as a few other things.

You can also configure APs individually with the app. It’s a bit of a nightmare as it’s literally configuring each AP and not a whole network but works in a pinch when someone doesn’t have a laptop and only has a phone or tablet.

The controller software is free and runs on any laptop or desktop you have kicking around.

I don’t think I’ve ever been thanked for basically telling someone to “be better” before.

But glad to hear it’s working. Love nerding out on UniFi stuff.

Haha, that was more so for rage spoon feeding me the solution. But you got the convo going :poosie:

God damn my download speeds are crap though, changed the channels so they don’t compete with my Telus router. Sub 10mbps on a ookla speed test still…

Your Telus router still broadcasting WiFi? Bridge mode that thing.

That was the plan, I did it at my old house just gotta remember how. Baby monitor is on that wifi gotta wait until tomorrow haha.

Telus Wi-Fi broadcasting but not moving any data isn’t going to interfere. In the controller, take a look at what wired speeds the AP is connected at. Make sure it’s gigE. Wiring problems could be a culprit in slow speeds. Literally had phreezee fix my cousins house for this problem.

If you have Telus TV you won't be able to turn off the WiFi. Provided you have STB's that are not Hardwired to Telus's router.

No telus TV, cancelled cable and just have a fire stick with IPTV.

Rage, i thought about that when i was shower pondering this morning. One of them is hooked to a swtich with cat 6e though, maybe i need to check what's between the switch and modem though.. I'm going to directly wire one to the modem with cat6 and see what happens. maybe i need to pull some new wire for the rooms. The one connected with cat6e said FE for speed, i don't know if thats the same thing you're talking about but its all i could find haha..

Going to do more trouble shooting tonight.

In the controller interface, if you click on unifi devices then click on an AP, a panel pops up on the right. Scroll down and open up uplink wired and it’ll show your speed.

104455

If it doesn’t show GbE or worst case it’s on a wireless mesh uplink, you got wiring issues.

True, but they could go full crazy like some of us here and configure their own network to handle IGMP traffic.

Yeah I saw that in Some forum however I have not ventured in to it.
Do you mind sharing the details ? If you prefer to PM that's fine as well :)

This was the guide that I followed:

My boxes are connected via cat6, not through wifi. From reading the comments section, it sounds like there's a few more settings to tweak on the AP's if you want to run the boxes over wifi.

Rage Nailed it, i moved my AC LR to be fed through cat 5e only and it works better, still only 45mb/s haha, i only have telus 300 there's no fiber in douglasdale apparently. Will cat 6 help? i guess this house needs new ethernet...

rage2

Uhh, if you have no fiber, you only have dsl, which iirc the fastest plan is 50 down and 10 up.

You can get TELUS 75 with copper. If you are really lucky, they can bond two lines to get you 150.

300 is only possible with fiber.

JfuckinC

Ah shit that’s right, it’s two lines bonded for 150 haha so brutal.

Cat 6 still won’t help though. Have you tried a cable tester? Maybe you are missing a pin.

Can you pull 150 at the router?

I got 70mb/s if I go straight from router with two cat5e’s and stand right beside the AP.. they say GBe for speed now at least, not FE. Both AP’a have to be downstairs now until I decide to pull some new wire or something. I guess I just accept my fate going from gigabit internet for $80 to internet 150 for $110 :rofl:

I appreciate the help though.

I mean if you are not getting half of what Telus promises at the router I assume that’s worth a conversation with Telus about. Certainly around billing because 75 service costs less than 150.

I have 75 right now at the temp house. And that is 2 bonded lines. lol Edgemont apparently is suffering from bad decisions made by AGT when they build out the area years ago.

How do you even live like that lol.

Can’t you just get Shaw temporarily?

I've been dying a slow death. I couldn't bring myself to pay what Shaw was asking. Yep, I was being cheap. It only mattered when downloading games. Streaming 4K has been fine as we have been living with just 1 TV.

Don't care anymore. In another couple of week, 950 up and down for $70.

That’s a good deal. Telus wouldn’t budge on pricing for me for gigabit ( the delta between gigabit and 300 was $100 a month lol )
