Looking to add a new car to my current collection.

I buy a new (used) car every two years with the intention to then keep it forever. I try to buy well used car with around 75k miles and drive them to 100k miles. At that point, I buy a new used car and continue to sharpen/ restore existing cars but drive them less.

I currently have three fun cars. E46/E90M3 and EvoX. While I love RWD, I’ve been spoiled by AWD.

What I want from next car is the following: - epic to drive - manual trans - wide fender flares - 4/ 5 seats - at or bottom of depreciation curve

What I’ve narrowed to and open to suggestions: - B7 RS4 - Built STI hatch - FD2 jdm import - ???

Looking for your advice as to what will add a different personality to current mix and be an awesome experience.

There is only one correct answer.

Trackhawk.

B7 RS4 and STI hatch both good choices. Both will need some preventative maintenance to be reliable unless you get a really good example of one. The STI will be faster if modded, but the RS4 makes nicer noises. Can't go wrong with either to be honest, drive both and then flip a coin.

Def B7 RS4, but you missed the bottom of the depreciation curve by 2-3 years and about $10,000.

Maybe an e39 M5, or e60? I assume you’d have thought of that with two bmws in the garage already. Also already bottomed in depreciation.

I don’t have any good suggestions for this car, but for your next one, b8 rs4 avant will be importable in 2025. That’s my recommendation for your future thread.

M5s have gone way up. I snatched one for $10k seven years ago so that would be the bottom lol.

Manual trans, fender flares and 4 seats. New Bronco.

E60 M5. Only downside is SMG cars are at the bottom and manuals aren’t.

I remember the car you bought as I went and saw it too. It was $9k IIRC. I’ve passed up about 5 E39 in teens or below and no regrets as I like V8 in M3 format better. Insane to think they were that cheap. Last month (middle of winter) I saw one sell for $25k with 200km…

I considered E60 but it’s too much of a boat. I’ll eventually build a S85 in a lighter/ track format but it’ll have to be 2 door.

Also, everything has moved up and I don’t think it’ll settle down to pre covid levels so…

I thought FD2 would be the 4 cylinder dream but no support for it so far lol

Its not manual but an RS3 would be a fun fun car.

I'd suggest the RS4 all day. I've had 2 and had good luck with both of them, I don't drive them hard, just enough to keep the carbon buildup off hopefully.
I think you already missed the bottom of the curve on the RS4, bring a trailer has them going for 30k usd to 50k usd.
If someone has leads on a b8 rs4 send them to me as i'd like to buy one and get it over here.

I was going to suggest a E90 m3 but then saw you already have one, I believe it to be the superior car vs the RS4 just no quite as rare. I had one picked out but the seller backed out with 1 hour to go.

I think the only one you want is the turbo; IIRC all the N/A ones had IMS bearing issues or something like that, which is a massive maintenance item, and the turbo didn't have the same issues.

Also it makes whoosh, pssst sounds.

Yeah this. Totally feeling 996 Turbo these days. Put a GT2 kit on it and call it a day. A Beyonder had one back in the day, silver, GT2 style Techart parts, on TE37's, loved that thing.

Ah here is the FS thread:

There is a guy in my area with a really nicely specced blue one, has yellow seat belts and such, mint condition. License plate "NO IMS" :D

I will be entering dirty hippie phase with ID Buzz.

And part of me really want a Supra/Cayman/Emira to offset that.

Lovin' everything but the Volks on that 911 for some reason. Always liked the slim multi spoke HRE's or OZ's on them for some reason.

Go ahead and neg me if you must.

Ya, not a huge fan of those either on that car.

The Advan GT's on the one ekliptix posted are 100x better. That entire car is really awesome.

100% disagree here. I'd take a NA 911 over a 911 Turbo 10/10 times from a fun to drive perspective. A 996 turbo is basically a speedboat in my opinion... great if you want to go fast in a straight line.

I mean if you're gonna go NA Porsche for fun factor, I think Cayman is the one to have. Dunno if they make them AWD though

Love the Evora but their back seats are for Pygmy Gibbons, aren't they?
*Although OP didn't say humans needed to fit...

How did this go from $30k cars to over $100k by p2. I haven’t made $ on sky view prices (yet)

More money more options. I look at it this way, one 997TT = RS4, STI, FD2 (three experiences).

The way I usually look at and RS4 or STI is in my rearview mirror as they ride my ass, even in the right lane. The British term "Yobbo" comes to mind.

Out of those choices, B7 RS4 by a long shot. 7800 RPM 420 hp V8 :D Have you heard one with a Milltek exhaust?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umHUJ_qo5lc

Personally find STI Hatches fugly and with an annoying/childish sounding exhaust. Plus you'll likely have to start vaping to fit in with the crowd.
