Curious where you guys get your 10w60 oil from? Guy I bought the car from was using Lucas Oil but usually use Pennzoil or Castrol synthetic in my other cars depending what is on sale at Canadian Tire but CT doesn't have 10w60.

Just add twice as much 5w30.

I have 0w20, would it be 15w60? or would it be 0w60?

Why would you need 10w60 for? 10w30 or even 10w40 should suffice? Is there something specific about 10w60 the vehicle requires?

Yeah it's the required weight for the car. I assume it is the engine tolerance and the high RPM.

He's got a lot of experience with M3s. I was picking his brain about an e90 that I'm interested in, and he mentioned that he usually gets people away from 10w60 as it's not needed/less than ideal for our climate and most driving. He'll also respond if you dm him on instagram @jzs_161

The 928 requires 10W60 and we just bought it on Amazon. Auto Value can special order it for you through LiquiMoly, but Amazon is faster.

Thanks man I messaged him.
"I typically advise either Motul 5W40 300V or 15W50 in these cars. 300V is a bit pricier than normal oil, but it's the absolute best protection for the engine."

I'll have to find a source for Motul now as mine stopped working at the dealership.

I ran Motul 10w60 in my M5, but it was a summer-only car. Would probably do a 40 weight if you drive it all winter

Most Euro shops should be able to help you out.

Locally can find Liquimoly, Motul, Fuchs, Total - all have a 10w60

For a bmw m engine I would only run 10w60 … seen too many wrecked engines from people trying to run other oils.

And for a e9x with extra clearance bearings installed, they are designed around 10w60 … if the bearing are not done , I would do it … you don’t want to win the German lotto …

Shell / castrol from the dealer… some online sources can save money … liquidmoly from tunerworks … make sure the oil is bmw spec or don’t run it …

I ran BMW's 10W60, the expensive shit from the dealership parts counter, or Liquimoly, on my E90. As has been said; gambling with a $20k engine replacement didnt seem like much fun.

I think they are closer to $30k now. I agree don’t gamble.

Changing oil on the S65 is already stressful, with the complete lack of a dipstick. Maybe I'm alone in that feeling? It was weird. Felt like I needed to bust out the pyrex erlenmeyer flask in order to get the right volume of oil into the thing.

My S4 didn't have a dipstick either. Drives me nuts. All my Jap cars I did the oil changes myself, but it proved to stressful on the German cars I've had/have, so I take those to shops for basically everything haha.

thanks everyone! We have an auto-value in town so I'll probably just order the 10w60 Lucas Oil from there. My office is really close to Vitek and Dr. Dub too so I am sure I could get stuff from there as well.

Yup not looking to cheap out - just couldn't even see any. I live in Airdrie too so that complicates things.

I have 3/4 of a bottle of Lucas Oil from the previous owner so that must be what he was doing. I already picked up some filters but yeah if you're wanting to unload let me know what you're thinking.

Pricing is surprisingly not bad at Calgary BMW - comparable to most online stores so I just pick up from there.

Beat me to it. Use the site quite a bit. Easiest way to get liqui moly delivers.

Appreciate the replies Gents, unfortunately they don’t seem to have the Castrol edge 10w60. Looks like it might be discontinued…

I may be overthinking which oil to use as I’m changing every couple thousand km prior to each driving season and the car is not tracked.

From what I’ve read, liquid moly causes a strange ticking noise in the s65, so I am a bit hesitant to try it.

i think castrol stopped making it once BMW dropped the partnership. there is now a shell 10w60 that BMW sells to replace the castrol.

I have used liquid moly, motul, castrol and shell, no issues with any of them.
