Good thing they got rid of Boris, though! They are obviously so much better off. It always works out to punch a long-term leader in the balls and kick him off the moving train to be replaced hastily by whoever happens to walk by.

Kim Campbell. Liz Truss.
Danielle Smith?

Probably the other way around since Truss comes first.

Smith is sure fumbling a lot 1st week in but nothing as bad as Truss... yet.

What if this was a long play? The rinos expose themselves so now they can be dealt with and a more right wing faction steps in.

I don't quite understand the whole issue at hand.

It seems like the markets moreso then Truss tanked the UK economy.

The UK had to devalue the pound anyways if it wanted to globalize it's economy away from daddy EU, having a strong pound makes importing UK goods impossible to be competitive versus goods made elsewhere (I have experience in this matter).

This doesn't seem the same as the 90's debt crisis Canada had, so again, I don't really understand. The basic info I am getting is people "felt" this was a problem, and laid the blame at Truss' feet.

I'm also getting awfully cornfused about how central banks are supposed to be independent from the state, and yet central banks seem to be acting very politically lately.

It's on edge, but Truss's policy pushed it over.

You don't tell your lender that you will be making less money when you have trouble servicing current debt.

So this was a lone gunman situation and she acted alone and without support of her party? Or.....? Because what party will the next PM represent?

I'm so confused.

Drain the swamp

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/31/liz-truss-wants-to-review-the-bank-of-englands-mandate.html

Basically, someone thinks she (or her electorates) know how economy works.

Decided to cut taxes and give people energy subsidy, playing both sides without any way to pay for it. Scapegoated the finance minister when the house start burning.

the polls showed if she was leader no way the party would win the next election... so the party kicked her to the curb... kind of like the way DS is going in Alberta...

She's basically the biggest LOL in history the of a developed country government. She lost like 500billion for the UK people in like a week.

That is enlightening, I see a bit more clearly now.

It seems like she was too aggressive. Either make cuts, extend the energy subsidies, not both.

Seems like she picked a needless fight, trying to get inflation under control while picking up the pieces from Brexit and the end of the world seem a better priority.

Weird. Conservatives seem to be awesome at missing the easiest shots.

Government do dumb shits say some, then you figure out that there is even dumber shit out there.

We need stable and consistent governments, especially ones that's heavy in debt.

In a way, Truss war path against BoE is very similar to Poilievre's rant on BoC and embracing crypto (which he backs away from now since crash).

The bond market almost collapsed. This was a real problem. Hard to run an economy on debt when you can't borrow any money.

That's said, Brexit is definitely going well tho, adjusted for inflation UK GDP is smaller than 2008 financial crisis.
