My father is shopping for a new truck, noticed an issue on a couple of them.

You can see the reddish pin-prick dots on this fender. Is this bad repair? Bad factory paint? Can it be buffed out and sealed? I did rub the spots to make sure it wasn't just bug guts, pretty sure it's rust.

These spots even appear under some of the PPF I've seen on the trucks, so that's why I'm curious if it is a factory defect and common.

$100k truck that is two years old and has rust with only 100k kms on it is pretty disappointing. Is this something to be concerned about? Watch out for? Or a non-issue?

Looks like a rail dust type issue to me?

Show me a Chevy/GMC in the last 40 years that doesn't have rust issues.

That looks lik rail dust/contaminants. a clay bar will get that out.

It's not "rust most white cars experience this, it's just contaminants. Use a clay bar to get rid of them

+1 for rail dust or contamination. Pretty common on white vehicles.

What's a 2 year old truck cost these days? Still 95% of brand new?

Thanks for the tips, as long as the contamination is not sandwiched between PPF we won't be too concerned. Never seen anything like that before!

Prices are all over the place. Gotta be careful, lots of two year cheap leases from 2020 are showing up and all the site supervisors are returning them. The one pictured had an ULTRA MEGA DUTY 30k lb bumper pull hitch installed

2020 dmax Denali have a floor price of about $78k cdn with 120k or less kms. Otherwise, prices are all over. You see 2021's with similiar or lower mileage on the same lot for an extra $1k over an older model and all sorts of shenanigans.

2022/2023 brand new denali starts at ~$105k off the lot. I've seen 25k km 2021 models for $95k.

+1 for contaminants. All cars will have this, some more noticeable than others (if you look closely), but clay bar will definitely remove them, you can also use this if you are doing your own detailing https://carzilla.ca/products/carpro-ironx-cherry-500ml

For sure, seems like the "loaded" trucks from every brand are missing features that used to be standard. Feels like people may need to give up some creature comforts for a few years if they want to get a good deal on a truck.
