I limit myself to the other 10 percent exclusively, although my number is substantially smaller.

I feel bad for people who prefer dogs to people. My friends don't expect me to pick up their shit like I'm their slave. They can also carry on a conversation and have opposable thumbs.

I feel bad for people who value their time so low that a dog is their best option.

I am not saying you have to own a dog, nor am I saying you need to prefer them over people. I get that dog ownership requires a significant level of selflessness and putting something else above yourself which not everyone has the ability/desire to do. But to dislike dogs in general cause 'they are filthy and you're not a filthy person', that's just a joke of a sentiment. My dog is probably cleaner, better groomed and better behaved than 90% of the humans/kids out there. Haha.

Buster

If a human behaved like a dog in terms of filthiness, we wouldn't even want to see them, let alone interact with them.

Dogs are filthy and disgusting.

We're just conditioned to ignore it.

No, I mean the idea that having a dog teaches you selflessness in a way that is in a comparable universe to what being a parent teaches you about being selfless.

shakalaka
01-18-2023, 10:14 AM
I would say both are very similar and on some levels much harder to do/achieve when dealing with an animal vs your own flesh and blood. Also, I am not making it about having dogs vs kids and which is better and which is not - both are rewarding in their own way.

My favorite game when we are driving is pointing out the adult human, bending over at the waist picking up a steaming pile of warm, disgusting dog feces. We laugh. It's a family activity. My kids like to hang out with other peoples' dogs. Then they remember that buying a dog is somehow choosing to forego the merits of indoor plumbing, and they are back to being savages handling steaming fucking feces, (while people drive by them laughing at them).

Do people think that turning a bag inside out so that your skin is a fraction of a millimeter away from the steaming, wormy feces, is somehow less embarrassing?

shakalaka
01-19-2023, 11:17 AM
Haha. I used to hate that part too but the positives far outweigh that one somewhat of a 'negative'.

And doing that I feel is still a lot easier and quicker than wiping a baby's poop filled butt crack and disposing nastiest smelling diapers. But we all gotta do that too.

bjstare

Of course they are.

But too many people feel that a person can't have the same feelings towards a pet like a dog like they would a kid.

When that is completely false.

Too many people (without children) think the feelings they have towards a dog are the same that they would have towards their own children. Physiologically, the response is similar, but a different order of magnitude for a kid than a dog.

Anecdotally, I have yet to meet someone with experience on both sides (kids + dogs) who disagrees with that. If you have that experience, and don't agree, let me know and I'll add it to my dataset. I don't know a single dog owner that would literally give up their own life to preserve the life of their animal.

I actually have to disagree on that part somewhat. If you are not a dog owner you have not seen what emotions happen at times. I have a dog that literally cries and gets anxiety and will not leave the side of one of my kids when they would be in a deep funk moment. Cuddle up to them, lay their paw across my kids lap and literally do everything in it's limited power to try and comfort them, and as soon as a smile come on their face the dog lights up too and starts running around happy as all get out... Understand that they do this with the one kid only and I am the dogs Alpha in the house bar none.

Craziest thing ever, but definitely dogs can feel some pretty heavy emotion towards people.

But we get it, you don't like dogs and I am not going to convince you otherwise, just as no one can convince me to not love them. I wish dogs had the same life spans as humans, my biggest complaint of dog ownership is how my pup won't stay with me for forever and call me a pussy but it fucking breaks my heart when I think about that.

Dogs absolutely love people. I don't feed our dog. I don't do dog chores. I barely ever even pet it. I provided zero services to the animal, but he whines and cries when I leave and goes absolutely apeshit happy when I get home.

Lol seriously... there's more dog jackets per capita here than there, a LOT more.

GVA is pretty much Asia and they are replacing child rearing with pets. So not surprised.

Oh man - does that ever look convenient!! I mean, is it big enough? It didn't look big enough.
Maybe there's one made of depleted uranium that the dog ownee could require a wheelbarrow to take along on walks.
So convenient.

I think it's designed this large to also be used as a catapult. You want a solidly weighted end for when throwing it back at the person who didn't pick it up.
