Looking for an ultra-wide monitor under $500. The main feature I'm looking for is being able to split it in half for multiple applications with my work Surface.

Is the budget enough or am I out to lunch with $500? I found this? https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00122892

Might be good?

Personal preference, I would want a higher resolution at that size of screen.

Make sure you check sites like Rtings for good reviews before you buy: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/by-features/ultrawide

I'm running 2 of these flanking a 27" orientated in portrait mode:

Keep an eye out at London Drugs and staples. They have LG monitors and you can price match at MemEx.

https://www.staples.ca/products/2990085-en-lg-29-ultrawide-wfhd-ips-gaming-monitor-with-amd-freesync-29wn600-w

I have an older version of that one and 2 24" for a 3 monitor setup. My old eyes can't handle more resolution...

How much real estate are you working with? What kind of resolution / colour accuracy do you need?
I found myself replacing my desk because it wasn't deep enough to give me distance from the size

Any monitor you buy should be at least 1440p resolution.

1080p on a UW monitor is wasting the purpose of the monitor.

^^Too slow, what he said

An ultrawide that's 27" should be at least 1440p, so anything 30"+ should be that at minimum. My 10 year old 27" monitor has 1440p LOL

Having used my ultrawide for years I'd recommend just going with dual monitor setup. Works better for almost everything IMO.

Hi All,

Thanks for responses!

Curved isn't a deal-breaker but would be nice. Desk space isn't a concern right now but has to be new so I can expense it at work :)

Having triple monitor setup for ages, I can't wait to go to an UW.
My goal is a 49" UW on the bottom with a 34" UW on top.

Most I know that loves UW are business or data analyst and geophysicists but personally 2 monitor also works best for me.
I tried running a 34" UW and a 27" in portrait and found the UW to have lots of unused space. running a 30" in landscape and 27" in portrait now and finding it to be a good balance.

also not fun when someone is sharing their UW or 4K screen in an online meeting lol

I have two 27" monitors at home and honestly have thought about going to a 37-41"+ ultrawide.

The cost of getting into something color accurate at that size though is a bit eye-watering.

I've been running a 49" Samsung g9 for 2 years now, ultra wide life ftw.

But yes full screen sharing is a no go, I just select the one app I want to share and it looks fine in the other end, kinda sucks having to swap to another app time to time but not the end of the world.

It's a VA panel so if viewing angels are a concern so it may not be a good fit but for the under $500 budget I don't think you'll get better bang for the buck

Yeah that's pretty nice!! I'll take one ;)

Finding a monitor that's at minimum 100% sRGB (preferably well beyond like 120-133) and not entirely shit in the Adobe space (like 85%+) just ratches up the price to well over $1,500. At those prices I think I'm dreaming more than actually going to purchase haha

Thanks for this tip benyl on price matching. So far either that Dell or this LG are key contenders, but the latter I'd have to cough up extra 200$.

FYI if anyone is interested; price matching through MemX comes out to $731 vs $750 at Staples.

Just gonna read up on the Dell one more.

That VA panel should be fine and you don't have to pay extra out of pocket. But if you have a height adjustable standing desk and adjust often, you may notice the viewing angle issue of VA panel.

Had a old 34" UW 1440p panel for like over 7 years now for my home office. I don't miss the dual 24" 1080p I had before.

What about using a 4k TV? I run a 50" Samsung at home and its effectively 4x 24" monitors. I would recommend sizing down to like a 40" or so because mine is a bit too big. Then download Microsoft PowerToys and set up FancyZones to be able to snap windows to different parts of your screen to keep it neat and tidy

I checked my previous Amazon Warehouse Deal orders and it says "Condition: Used - Like New" on the order page, but if you download the invoice as a PDF, which I'm assuming you do to submit the expense, it doesn't say anything about it being used.

The WQ is newer, more colours and higher bit depth, but lacks a speaker.

I would personally go with the WQ if it you can swing it.

Monitors are so user/desk specific - I have an awesome 4k 24" LG ultrafine... But It's pretty much turned to my secondary display because in practice - I find I prefer to work off the LG ultragear 32GK60W-B. Reviews/recommendations all say the ultra fine is awesome - and the ultragear is meh... Maybe it's my eyes and use case - everyone's different and the specs mean nothing if it doesn't work for yours.

My brain says it's a 27, Google says it's a 24 (I just remember same model as the Mac 4k and if it's good enough for apple snobs...), I'll have to actually look at the model number tonight if it really matters, about same height as my ultragear, just doesn't have that extra width.

It's great for some things especially in cad - but most of the time it's where chrome and discord sit these days while I do things on the ultragear...

I don't think much of what appears on the warehouse deals side is actually used - I think majority is stuff thats mangled within the amazon system. I'm 100% sure they don't inspect they use some kind of formula to decide what damage based on external damage. My coffee maker arrived unopened (factory sealed) - no damage, the fancy ergonomic chair I grabbed - said lots of damage / missing parts - box was entirely destroyed, but it was actually all intact not a scratch/missing part to be found. Even my reboxed monitors I've grabbed nothing close to the damage 'assumed'.

Have no idea about the warranty so I looked at my order receipt and it sent me in the loop about it's independent to the vendor, but the vendor was 'Amazon Warehouse' so I'd say it's final sale past 30 day return window. Unless you hit up LG for warranty claims.

Is that a thing? Ooo.

Also what's the window management app to download if I want to split windows more than halves? It's pretty big 50/50 right now but definitely not as big as two monitors.

True a monitor arm would be a great addition and remove the need for the stand too.

Most monitors have a standard VESA 100x100 mount on the back. Check PrimeCables for a cheap one that should do the trick, just keep an eye on the weight limits.

flipstah is such an inspiring individual, I ended up ordering a couple of the 34WN750's myself to replace my four 24" Dell Ultrasharps. First one arrived today from Richmond, second one should be coming in a couple days from Ontario. Both were also Amazon Warehouse Deals.

I think this first one is more "damaged packaging" than "used" cause it looks like it was just missing the outer box with all the words and pictures. Even the manual, cables, and accessories are still sealed in its original packaging.

111146

I can't wait until the second one comes so I can reclaim some desk space and reduce the number of cables.
