View Full Version : Feedback on Lexus RC-F and RC350 Please

I'm currently looking at a Lexus RCF and the RC350. Don't necessarily need the RCF, more of want than anything but at the very least would like to pick up the RC350.

Look wise, think they're ok; the IS is definitely nicer in my opinion. Interior is the same and engine is the same, basically a two door IS from what I gathered.

Just looking for some experience and feedback on the RC's. How was ownership and any issues? I had an 18 IS350 I sold last summer and cost of ownership was ultra low and I had zero issues whatsoever, so wondering if it's the same? I also really enjoyed driving the IS.

Thanks in advance.

Is this the one with the tiny fuel tank, or is that the previous gen?

I don't know anything about the tiny fuel tank. And gen wise, isn't the RC the same body/gen since 2015?

The RWD models come with the 8 Speed automatic transmission which works very well with the 3.5L V6. The AWD versions come with the 6 Speed Automatic which needs updating at this point to be competitive with other similar models in this class.

The F-Sport models come with some nice upgrades over a standard edition car with either the RC or the IS and a much nicer gauge cluster. The Mark Levinson sound system is worth the upgrade if you can a car with that as well. The sound system in the RC is not as good as the IS with the location of the speakers in the door cards and cabin design.

Its basically the exact same car as the IS with two doors. I don't think you're going to find many differences in ownership.

It's like someone owning a 3 series and wondering if the 4 series was a radically different beast

I always did think the RCF was a very good looking car. V8 sounds nice too

I enjoyed my RCF. Great car. Handles really well once you dial in the alignment and tire pressures. Also nice to go for an oil change and leave with manicured nails.

Go for the RCF. It won't be much more expensive to run, but you get 100hp more, better seats, and v8 sounds.

Additional running costs are going to be oil changes and brakes, but both are really reasonable for a performance car.

Honest question: has Lexus ever made a lemon? I feel like even a Lexus Lemon would be a step up from a lot of the competition.

Go for the RCF! 5.0 V8 growl is amazing and they are sharp looking cars.

The CT200H 1.8 Hybrid cars suffered from head gasket failures around every 100,000kms or so. There was a TSB update to replace the EGR valve and intake manifold as something with that combination was causing the head gasket failures. Only thing I've heard in the last 15 years that didn't sound very Toyota / Lexus quality to me.

Great info thanks so much!!!

Aware of the fsport packages and such, has the F3 in my IS and it was real nice. Love the ML system too. Wasn't aware of the 8 speed in RWD vs 6 speed in AWD, but same as the IS cept the IS I don't think you can get RWD for the 14-21 MY models in Canada.

Great info re: the stereo though, love my music - drowns out the wife haha.

This is good too and I thought so IS vs RC.

Haha I love the manicures at LoR vs. LoC. The Japanese lady does a really good job vs. the Vietnamese lady at LoC, but I think she left and there's a Russian lady now there.

Yeah I remember you having an Orange one right? I'm really swaying towards the RCF vs RC350.

THIS is what I heard too. I was also told absolutely not to go with the RC300 from a power and option standpoint, I will regret it!!!

Sounds like you care about the music. The rcf system is by far the best sounding system of all the cars I’ve owned. The interface is the worst tho especially for iPhone integration. That said I think CarPlay is available now so that fixes it.

Oh yeah man the tunes to tune out the wife for sure haha. I love my music!!! Warren G, Ice Cube, some Pink Floyd!!!

Yeah the interface is absolutely horrible and even worse from what I hear with that silly mouse pad thing vs the joystick.

I'm happy to hear though that you enjoyed the sound system. I find the ML systems in the Lexus' are a really good and balanced system especially when compared to the HK system in my cooper for 3 series.

the ML system is the only reason I stick with the Lexus now, this is what my wife wants actually. When we went car shopping 6 years ago, my wife would bring one of her favorite CD and just pop it into the car I was looking into, listen to it for 15m, nope. Acura, nope, Infiniti nope, Audi, nope ... then Lexus.. Yup. I am pretty stoked that the newer Lexus now comes with the 1500-1700 watt 17+ speakers vs the 835 watt 15 speakers of old (mine), is by far the best bang for the buck for high end stock audio out there.

I've said it here before, but fwiw I don't find the mousepad all that bad. It's obviously no touchscreen, but it's not the travesty people make it out to be.

Are there thumb buttons again for the mouse? Mine have those, but it's older and I got a loaner one time where you had to push the entire mouse down to click and while I narrowly avoided crashing that car, it did give me Ebola and ball cancer.

My parent's LC is a 2021 I think, and I don't believe it has buttons. Click the whole pad.

Us? :poosie:

My 2015 lexus had what I imagine was the worst UI in its class

When I later got a 2016 BMW it was like being teleported 20 years in the future, and the generations werent much differentin age.

Hope lexus has fixed that now because it was a nice little car

That's insane power!!!

The ML system on my 18 IS350 and my RX350 just kills everything!!! Even the ML in my gen 2 IS350 and gen 2 RX were absolutely amazing that I can't buy a Lexus that doesn't have the ML system.

It bugs me a lot to be honest but I haven't used it enough. All my cars have the joystick and like you said, no touch screen but it works well imo.

We played a lot of Flo Rida in ours. That bass really hits differently in a Lexus. The only downside is that the rear view mirror is useless with the music cranked.

Yeah the bass is like just right - not too too much but def not too little and it's sharp, not like it flaps or just rumbles forever...like drags. Yes yes re: the rear view mirror haha.

Ditto, Buster, I'll be back in Calgary this spring to pick up our LC (store it in our garage in our home there). If you want to borrow it for an afternoon to see what you think, we can figure out a day that works for both of us.

Ours is a 2021 as well. After asking around here, and looking at a PILE of other similar-ish vehicles, the conclusion I drew (and the missus as well) is that the only car I think that would be better as a replacement for us would be the IS 500 with pretty much the same powertrain as the LC. Lots of Benz/BMW options too, but they all seemed like steps sideways instead of forward...

Not to derail the thread or anything.
If Audio quality is important try using the Roon Arc. I know it is limited by the HW at the end of the day. However IMO it does improve your sound quality with in the sand box.

Who's got a Volvo we can try? I've heard the BW system in a McLaren, it was ok. More on par with my MB Burmester setup but it was no Lexus ML. I suspect the lack of space in a McLaren has something to do with it.
