BMW has been failing at designs for a while. This is failing extra hard.

Why do they make those ugly kidney grills and then cover them up?!

Not a fan of the new look.

It’s the same design language as the 2 series grand coupe.

Stubby front and dopey general aesthetics.

Might need to order that turbo s sooner than later, I’d keep your current M5 over this.

Once you use the words "Gran coupe" earnestly there is no hope.

It's like someone from Merc or Audi has infiltrated them at all levels to tank them

Jesus, just as bad as the M2. Who the fuck approves of these designs? Does BMW not do a market feedback assessment before approving these god aweful looking cars? I dont think its hard to determine the correct demographics that can afford that particular vehicle class.

Also, the 5 series is targeting older/mature folks? Mercedes E class is doing it right. keeping their cars simple, boring and classy.

Is that a hyundai? I dont think BMW can (or should) be compared to that level.... which makes it more sad.

Cars are receding from the public eye as sources of status. The trend will continue over the long term. ie....the germans are fucked, as they rely almost entirely on being aspirational products and brands. The question you should be asking yourself is: why did their marketing work on me all this time without me realizing it?

I feel like cars are transitioning to tools more than toys for a lot of people. The market is pushing towards efficiency and automation vs aesthetics and function. What we know as being aesthetically pleasing isn't quite what provides the least drag to maximize efficiency while housing all of the sensors needed for the tech. They throw in the kidney grills because its the hallmark of BMW design. It may be ugly as shit but the second you see it, you know the brand.

I agree, it will only get worse.

I agree it is sad that the design of the BMW is so bad it shouldn't be compared to the Korean car.

is it cuz they made too many and tried to cater to everyone

Because kids like Tesla more than BMW.

And BMW stop being BMW and pretend to be cool and ends up looking like this:
114011

Rolex did roll out quartz watches in the 70s before they wise up and stay in their lane. The German 3 doesn't have that luxury.

I'm a huge BMW fanboi and this has to be the ugliest fucking car I've ever seen. On what planet is this "the most important BMW this year?"

That is one ugly car.

I thought the Bangle days were a low point in BMW's history. But I think they've hit a new low.

The G87 M2 is intentionally polarizing and pretty awkward looking.

There shouldn’t be much surprise that many think it’s quite ugly.

Personally I think it looks like something out of Arash’s shed

It seems like an alright car underneath, though quite heavy, but it’s only good in a relative sense considering how bad the field of competition is right now.

Yea but when demand is soft and they are discounting them out the door a lot fewer of them will get made

Look at the abject failure that the MB EQ cars are

What was the prediction?
MB/BMW no longer status symbols?
Someone was saying import taxes are so high in china that only the rich can drive them as they are 2-3x the price in NA
So when the Chinese come over here they are like wow, so cheap, gotta buy/drive one and idk I think Chinese will always care about image aha

Don’t they just make BMW’s and Mercedes cars in China now?

That’s another one, I bet it’s damn close that more M cars are made outside of Germany than inside these days. Including the new M2 lol.

You’re not wrong, M2 is made in Mexico and all the M SUVs are made in USA/Mexico.

You guys don't get it. It's not about how a BMW drives any more, it's about BMW being treated as a brand like Balenciaga.

https://youtu.be/qAFgpxAxV5o

End of the day, Gen X and above don't drive the market any more.
