https://www.carscoops.com/2023/08/mercedes-amg-v8-could-return-to-the-c63-and-e63-by-2026/

Citing senior engineers “directly involved in the matter, ” Georg Kacher from Car And Driver suggests that the M177 4.0-liter V8 engine is being reworked to meet the significantly stricter Euro 7 emission standards. According to the report, the current generations of the C-Class and the E-Class need “minor bodywork changes” in order to be compatible with a V8-based PHEV.

Kinda stupid of them for not figuring this out in the first place and dropping the cylinders from 8, especially for a powerhouse like AMG, but whatever I guess. Better late than never if they still figure it out.

Or brilliant. Sell a ton of the overpriced 63 4 Cyls then come out with an even more overpriced 73 V8

Probably somewhere in between. The Germans are probably getting a lot of cold water in the face at the moment, as they realize that their brand cache is far more limited than they thought. There are only so many 89coupes in the world that are driven by pure superficial brand awareness. (I guess it's good for Rolex that there is a seemingly unlimited number of Asians).

Maybe BMW and Mercedes would sell more cars if they had a promotion that provides you with a food and drink instagram account that is pre-populated with pictures.

They need to find some weight savings also since generation to generation gained 750 lbs.

People are trying to hang on to the "car guy" thing, but cars as enthusiast things are deeeeaaaaaad.

They're going to have a huge problem on their hands here. They already paired the P3 hybrid drivetrain with both I4 and V8. They upscaled the V8 hybrid as a 65 replacement (see GT63 vs GT63 E Performance price gap) while the I4 product is the entry level version. The funny thing is, both have very similar performance because the I4 is coupled with the more expensive F1 MGU-H turbocharger, which makes it less laggy than the V8. Everything else remains the same (I think the V8 has a slightly bigger battery for a little more EV range). There's a 100hp gap but the I4 actually weighs significantly less, and the C63 with it is already overweight.

I don't know how they can price the V8 version without canabalizing what the GT63EP, S63EP, and SL63EP is positioned as. Either that or you're right, the C63 V8 EP is going to become way over priced, and will stop competing against the M3/M4 and RS5, which is what they're trying to fix by using the V8? Or they'll detune it, so you get even more weight for same power. There's also rumors that they're pairing the I6 from the 53 to the hybrid drivetrain, originally destined for the E class. So maybe that's an option too. All in all AMG got themselves into a big fucking mess the way they positioned everything.

For the record, I would love the 4 cylinder version. If the CLE63 cab is coming with the hybrid, I'm there, 4, 6 or 8 cylinders.

Meh, mercedes has no problem pricing pretty ordinary cards into the mid to high 200's. Lots of moat for an overpriced C63 with healthy margins.

So long as they see every one they make what do they care, they need as much margin as possible to float their shit electric cars like every other auto maker ( my personal theory for why everything has gotten so expensive, subsidization of unprofitable EV divisions).

Based on information gathered from German dealers, MB Passion Blog reports that orders for the electrified performance sedan are currently hovering “close to zero”. Dealers are of the opinion that the subdued interest in the C63 S stems from the fact that its BMW rival offers superior value in terms of powertrain, pricing, and premium quality.

Spoke to a dealer on the weekend about a V8 C63.

Sounds like they are getting ready to open up orders.

Ouch. I would hate to be one of the decision makers at MB that thought a 4-cylinder hybrid was a good idea for this type of car.

It’s not all good.

MB has drawn a line in the sand that V8 AMG’s aren’t going to be cheap. A 200k C63 is pretty spicey.

RS6 Performance, RS etron, RS5, etc are all capable cars. RS etron even has physical buttons for HVAC!

Although this isn't directly relevant, it may as well be. I got a promotional email from GM today about my Silverado EV deposit.

They included this picture:

They aren't really the king of the castle in terms of performance... but compare an RS5 to an M3 and tell me what you think looks better (Don't 89coupe me)

On the street the differences are probably not all that pronounced anyways.

Nice

M3 in person is better looking but I do think the RS5 looks good, it's just that Audi's look has got pretty stale over the last decade of minimal changes outside of making the grilles bigger and bigger. Photos don't do the M3 justice. The average person won't even notice an RS5 because it looks like every other Audi. M3 on the other hand stands out.

Can confirm m3/m4 is nice. I almost bought one. The carbon seats are amazing.

The m2 is the ugly one.

Update to the drama - Mercedes decides to continue to kill C63 and E63 slowly -

https://www.motor1.com/news/681625/amg-denies-v8-return-c63-e63-rumor/

Here is my list of all these cars

#1 - W205 C63 Coupe
#2 - G80 M3 (Amazing performance, really like the green one, even if its a butterface)
#2.1 - F80 M3 (I think these cars will age well and are very good looking, kind of like all M3's up until the G80)
#3 - Recent RS5 (Don't know model naming)
#4 - W206 C63
#5 - ??Profit

It's a crime that they don't bring the touring to North America. Journalists absolutely love it including Chris Harris who said it may be the greatest all arounder. They would sell every single one they brought over.
