nismodrifter, IKEA 365+ has that type of container. I have the older type with bamboo lids, looks like they switched to dishwasher safe plastic for the lids now. That seems better.

Good call about the camels, I have set up a few alerts. Also might buy a new TV for the living room, previous one was a boxing day special, and cheap as hell, and it's fine for everything EXCEPT hockey, where the ice has lighter and darker spots, which is distracting.

Yes serious.

I have various versions.
Best ones are glasslock from possibly Costco or Canadian Tire.
5 years, used everyday. I don't dishwasher the lids. The gasket does come off too. Only one has broken by getting dropped.
The Dollarama versions are crappy.

I keep hearing about the HX. I would need an LX for my second monitor as well. That's $600+ for just arms.
I found some VIVO ones on Amazon for way cheaper, with lots of comments talking about the tilt having to be cranked down to get it to work with the monitor I have.

That being said, I can't find the HX on the Dell Canada website.

Keeping our eyes on washer and dryer sets from either LG or Electrolux. My wife is considering a stackable unit and convert the rest of the space in the laundry room into hanging space and storage space, but I'm pretty sick of doing renos so just a standard unit set is good enough for me.

I know a couple lawyers that regularly get bespoke stuff from them and love it. I have personally not yet ordered but was planning on doing the 3 bespoke suit package for $1899 and some custom monogram shirts with initials on the cuffs. I don’t think you can go wrong going with them at the price point and the stuff being bespoke.

Just as an FYI, Costco and Ikea use Metro At Home, and they are god awful. Good chance your unit will be damaged. Make sure you level your washer after you get it if it's actually in good condition.

Anyone know anything about the history of the Nest/Ecobee pricing? Are they likely to go on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals?

Had some rewiring done so I could integrate my humidistat controls into my Nest, but it's the cheap version that apparently can't control humidity. So looking for an Ecobee or maybe the higher Nest but don't want to get them now if they're likely to drop in a few weeks.

I'll just say as someone with a Nest in the shop and an Ecobee in the house, the Ecobee is a better device in basically every way IMO. Ecobee's comfort settings is a great way to go about scheduling.

The only thing I didn't like about the Ecobee is the lack of ability to have a "summer" and a "Winter" setting, so each spring/winter I had to go in and adjust the temperatures which was annoying.

This is the space. We've had that little table there for 5 years and I really want it gone. Was thinking of the 2 bookshelf 2.1 speakers on the little shelves right by the nose of the A wing and black elephant. Or I've thought maybe a soundbar behind the giraffes but I'm worried it'll sound weird being enclosed on 5 sides.

The TV fully fills the hole and more so I can't push it back at all. The stand goes nearly flush to the edge as well

So on these Frame TV's, do you need to cut a hole in the wall behind the TV to fit this box, or can you run it without the box? On my wall, I already have a power outlet and don't plan on plugging anything else into it except an amazon firestick (unless it's got access to netflix/disney plus built in already). This control box is not great for me as I'm not interested in cutting a big hole into the wall to house it.

Brent.ff
11-12-2023, 06:03 PM
It has a single cable for power, hdmi etc, so my plan is to just hide the box in our tv stand and run the single cable through the wall. I don’t think it’s optimal for those who have power by where you’d typically have to cut the hole but if you have a stand under it, easy to hide the one wire

I don't know soundbar dynamics enough to say how it'll sound in the above TV space. I don't think anything is really ideal in this setup, so soundbar might be the best way regardless just for space reasons.

Can you get a wall mount to get rid of the TV stand?
Should free up enough space to keep the sound bar below the TV

You can’t run a frame without the box. It’s just a display panel; everything that makes it a tv is in the box. That being said, putting a little niche in the wall behind the tv to house the box is not a big job at all.

Got a linky? Haven't seen your thread, but I'm surmising you came to a similar conclusion. America test kitchen did a review on this and you're better off buying a non-stick every couple years (think t-fal, OXO or some other brand that has been around that aren't exceptionally expensive). Exception being stainless or carbon steel but you typically have to heat the pan up quite a bit more to get non stick eggs which is more of a fry and less of a gentle cook.

Got a linky? Haven't seen your thread, but I'm surmising you came to a similar conclusion. America test kitchen did a review on this and you're better off buying a non-stick every couple years (think t-fal, OXO or some other brand that has been around that aren't exceptionally expensive). Exception being stainless or carbon steel but you typically have to heat the pan up quite a bit more to get non stick eggs which is more of a fry and less of a gentle cook.

https://forums.beyond.ca/threads/395834-Non-stick-pan-really-isn-t-Shit-sticks-all-the-time?highlight=Shit

Tldr, the cheapest t-fal are damned good, and go 75% off regularly at the triangle store. Heritage rock is better made, thicker base, and also go on sale sometimes. May or may not be worth the extra money. Anything better than that, for non-stick coated pans, can go fuck itself.

All-clad stainless is great, and I have one, but not really non-stick.

There's rumors the switch 2 will come out next year, though that doesn't really help them for this year. Might be worth scooping a used one tbh

I think one of the best 'sales' for the Switch is during the PC Optimum bonus redemption event at Black Friday. Redeem 250,000 points for $400 I think is how it goes.

Obviously that presumes you collect and have PC points. And I hate myself for sounding like a RedFlagDeal aficionado.

Pretty sure I remember some long RFD thread on buying switches from shoppers for some reason - for points? Likely has to do with PC points mentioned above?

Nice, will have to keep my eye out for heritage rock. Last time I saw all 3 sizes on sale at costco (oxo) then decided to grab it and throw it in the basement for the inevitable toss of the ones I'm using right now. Beyond has been a surprising reprieve of like minded deal finders. Might have to go triangle store more often.

Triangle store is a terrible deal for housewares unless they are at least 50 percent off. However they go 75 percent off a few times a year. Worth keeping an eye on.

The new Shoppers in Okotoks had Switches in stock. I was there last night and found it weird how much cool stuff they had.

My All Clad stainless steel pan says you're wrong.

Agreed.

If it gets caked with grease marks, Bar Keeper's Friend works its magic and looks brand new again.

Stainless steel was a pain in the ass until I learned how to make it non-stick. We use it for nearly everything. Except for searing large pieces of meat, cast iron still does better for some reason.

True non-stick pans have their place, for us it just doesn't get used very much. They're a necessary piece of cookware to have. Buy whatever has chemicals that won't obviously kill you and toss it once a year (IMO).

Staub Dutch Ovens are on clearance on their website: https://www.zwilling.com/ca/staub/cast-iron/cocottes-dutch-ovens/

That's a good deal, thanks. Just picked one up. Kingsland Shoppers has quite a few in stock.

Can you get a wall mount to get rid of the TV stand?
Should free up enough space to keep the sound bar below the TV

Depends on how thick the TV is, as you move it up, it'll need to come out to clear the mantel.

I still can’t get fried eggs to not stick to my steel pans. I know the technique, it works so well with scrambled eggs I can just tip the pan and slide them off… but for some reason fried eggs always stick. I have one cheap non stock pan, for the express purpose of frying eggs haha.

Agreed fried eggs can be a pain in the ass on stainless, here our cast iron does better too but it's very well seasoned. For stainless, you'll need more oil/butter than normal, and likely keeping the pan on too hot.

Or just non stick and make your life easier/healthier.
