- University student in Taiwan had his legs amputated to claim $1.3 million in insurance payout

- The student's friend persuaded him to carry out the scam

- He plunged his feet in a bucket of dry ice for 10 hours that got frostbitten to the point of double amputation below the calf

- However, medical staff were suspicious while assessing him

- Days before the scam, he bought expensive polices for life insurance, travel insurance and accident insurance. He was paid out $7500 by one insurer but has to pay it back

I never thought I would say this but in light of these types of posts I really miss Zenops' nickle rants.

My outlook on nickel has lessened now that one of five of Putins doomsday tanks has been destroyed. Drones win.

As for this stunt, I could see it happening. Imagine being born with bum knees or some sort of near-disability. Might as well go to full disabled and collect a million? Insurance companies are not going bankrupt just yet - which does show that people aren't *that* desperate - yet.
