What qualifications.

Hi everyone,

I'm 12 years old. I would like to be a car designer when I grow up. Does anyone know what qualifications I would need to do this job?

There are a few schools in north america that offer an automotive engineering program...that might be your best bet

Yeah definitely take mechanical engineering to give you the formal training that you will need FOR SURE by the time a youngster like you will be done school. Good for you for having some insight as to what you would like to do when you "grow up"..

Good luck and maybe some of us on this forum will end up buying YOUR cars if you work hard enough at it :)

There are 2 aspect to car design.

1. The artistic side.
2. The engineering side.

Pic one and pursue.

My cousin designed the last Ford Probe and the last Ford Escort (you can see some similarities). He went the artistic route rather than the engineering route. It is amazing how quickly he can freehand a car.

I know that he went to some automotive design school in Southern California.
