Is it just me, or are the side mirrors on this a dead giveaway? Other than that I'd have a hard time telling its actually a Fiero!

is that the fiero mera??

I read that you could get a factory option that would convert your fiero to a ferrari.

At least is wouldn't have an interior that looked like ass

I'll bet 99% of people would be fooled into thinking that's a ferarri. At least until they tried to race it anyway. :)

WTF why are all Ferrari look-alikes Fieros?

My dad had a client that owned a Fiero converted to an F40 body. It was even worse that the guy had a vanity plate that said '91 F40' as if it were real. It pisses me off...

People turn fieros into ferraris and diablos and such because the body is all fibergalss and is modular, and you can easily change the body panels. there are many "kit cars" that use the fieros chasis.

plus you can drop in some pretty sweet motors in them after, and make them FLY!!

Ya the huge wheel gap in the rear would never be seen on a Ferrari.

I got a few pictures of a Dino GT at ZR's show last summer.
 sexiest. car. evar.
I've seen an F50 kit on a pontiac coupe, not a fierro tho...it was like, a grand prix. There was a post about it on here a long time ago...looked like ass, and had a giant pontiac emblem in the steering wheel.
Isn't there also a green Fiero Ferrai somewhere in calgary too?

Lots of wrong information in this thread, so I decided to join and post the corrections.

big wheel gap?

Ya the huge wheel gap in the rear would never be seen on a Ferrari.

The Ferrari of that era had a large amount of wheel gap as well, very common those days, even in the 1980's. Here is a pic of my Fiero next to my brothers real 308:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/skybax/Fiero%20GT/background.jpg

Both cars have the stock suspensions. As you can see the 308 has a little more wheel gap.

the sheer lack of size is the REAL giveaway

Actually, they are about the same size, even in the 1980's:

is that the fiero mera??

No... It's a late 60's early 70's Ferrari Dino Replica.

I'll bet 99% of people would be fooled into thinking that's a ferarri. At least until they tried to race it anyway.

The Fiero performance is on par with the real thing.

ROFLMAO... why!!!!???? why spend the money to make a FIERO of ALL cars... look like a Ferrari

WTF why are all Ferrari look-alikes Fieros?

Very good questions..... and a very good reason. Fiero is a mid-engine car just like a Ferrari with a space frame. For those who are not familiar with the space frame design, it's a very strong design that allows you to change body panels without compromising safety.

Fiero boasts a revolutionary space-frame design. It's a extremely strong steel cage. Super heavy steel doors with dual side impact beams, and front & rear crumple zones.

The car weighs a heavy 3000 lbs, but the entire exterior body only only weighs 175 pounds! Think of it as a nascar racecar. The exterior body is stricly for aerodynamics and appearance, not for saftey. The Fiero is the only GM car to ever achieve a 5- Star crash rating without an airbag. (one of the few ever I believe among all manufacturers) It can take a hit better than a late 70's early 80's full size full frame monster. (ie: LeSabre, Delta 88, etc

Consumer Reports magazine article "Which Cars Protect You Best?" in April 1984, the Fiero tied for first place. In this test, cars were run into a solid barrier at 35 miles an hour. After this crash test the ONLY car that had a better rating, in fact the highest rating, was the Volvo.

Here is a link that goes more into detail on space-frace design:

http://www.fierofocus.com/articles/art-fiero-history.html

plus you can drop in some pretty sweet motors in them after, and make them FLY!!

Yes, some of which include 3800 Supercharged V6, Caddy 4.9 and Northstar V8, Chevy 350 TPI, and so on. Most run the 1/4 mile in the 12 second range with these engine swaps.

"I read that you could get a factory option that would convert your fiero to a ferrari."

I highly doubt that

Actually he is correct. That would be a Pontiac Mera. In 1987 and 1988 Pontiac offered the Mera. It was only offered through Pontiac Dealships as a new car. It was not a kit, it was a brand new car backed by a factory GM warranty.

Corporate Concepts was hired by Pontiac to design a 308 GTB body. They spent 2 years perfecting the clay model. A new Fiero GT was about $16k and a Mera was about $24k. The made 247 Mera's before Ferrari filed a lawsuit forcing them to stop production.

Basicly it's a brand new Fiero with the body panels replaced. Remember the space-frame concept?

Here is some more info on the Mera for those who like to learn about cars:

Thanks. :)

Classy replys.

The Fiero is probablly one of the most misunderstood cars. Lots of myths & misconceptions. Great car to learn about and very fun to own.

This is a Canada message board right? With the .ca at the end of the URL?

There is a very popular Fiero Club in Canada:

http://calgaryfieros.com/

I have a question for you all.....

Why is this message board so popular?

There are a TON of posts, lots of activity here. Usually there is some sort of attraction, like Mustang UBB, or Buick GN UBB, or Honda.....

But what brings so many registers users here?

a well organized and mostly mature forum thats, dare i say it, more like a community than just a place to spend time. although there are alot of members on beyond, there's a much smaller number of members that post regularily, so its alot more friendly. at least thats why i think so

Habsfan in Niagara huh? :)

I visited the Falls in Canada 2 weeks ago for the first time. Was great!

Watched Canada beat Slovokia tonight 5-0 in the World Cup. Great game!

Mario played great for a 38 year old who only played 10 games last year. I guess the surgery and off season training payed off.

Thanks for the info about the Fiero and (ugh) Mera, but I have one HUGE question...Is it possible that GM was that F'in stupid to think that they could get away with such a blatant copyright infringment/patent and design thefts? The Mera should be the laughing stock of the automotive world as far as real car enthusiasts are concerned...I'd laugh sooo hard if I knew someone that bought one....

I just thought it was retarded to think any car company would blatantly copy another companies car like that, but I guess we are talking about pontiac lol

Now THIS is what I call a Fiero.....

This 88 GT is owned by a GM designer and has been featured in many auto magazines:

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/025670.html

1/4 mile = 12.2 seconds
0-60 mph = 4.2 seconds
Top speed = 165 mph
lateral G's = 1.17

It's too bad GM has to make the corvette the top performer. If the fiero was continued into the 90's it would have been a MR2 killer.

I was really looking forward to a W41 powered fiero.....

Yeah, California Kid's Fiero is nice, but I think Skitime's still tops it.

Anyhoo, here's what the Fiero was supposed to have become, until it got canceled due to the fact they put in a bigger engine and it ended up spanking the Corvette.

I loved my Fiero, had cool options like the suede seats, WS6 suspension, etc....I also would have liked to have seen the Fiero continue with that concept design above....very attractive car!

I still don't understand why people would want to change their car to look like something else. For the same amount of money they can make it look nicer with real mods. People these days... :dunno:
