I was looking at getting a new subscription and was wondering what everyone thinks is the best import mag? Some choices I've seen are:
Sport Compact Car
Import Tuner
and...i can't think of any others

The North American and Europena import mags are all trash....Option magazine from Japan kicks ass...if I had to pick a north american import rag it would be superstreet followed by ricefest tuner

sport compact car and european car is the most informative of the primedia group publications, but i've seen cars and write ups featured in scc later in import tuner...so obviously theyre not that great

I just put an order in for sport compact car.

I've heard a lot of people call it trash, but I still find them entertaining and funny. That article about the sentra they cut up still makes me laugh whenever I think about it...chicks dig convertables...haha

 j/k. I haven't read anything but scc and i think its pretty good, cept for 80% of it is ads for rice-cessories. Lots of thier articles are pretty cool, especially ones about classic imports, and like szw said, that article where they ripped up the sentra was fucking hilarious!!!

 World News, and Billy's News stores downtown on 7th Ave offer a wide selection of car tuning magazines you probably have never even heard of, so I encourage who ever is interested to check these out!

And lately I've been buying a Canadian-based bag magazine called "Modified". You can check it out here -

superstreet is alright, I like SCC as well, but what I really enjoy reading is Honda Tuning. Can't get enough of that mag!:D

i feel super street is a bit too ricey for my tastes, crappy toilet jokes...but good pics and coverage, but not enough focus is given on the amazing tuning done to the cars...SCC is a bit more technical than the rest of the primedia mags too

My choice would be SCC and then Super Street.

Not a big fan of Import Tuner anymore. Mostly show stuff, but whatever floats your boat....

Super Street is the bomb taddy, I used to think import tuner was good until all now they show mostly is nasty cars with ugly conversions, HCI isnt too bad, theres a couple good ones and PAS is good too eh paulaman?:D :poosie:

modified. Hands down. After Turbo continued to let me down month after month with their "tech." articles I received my free copy of modified. Haven't looked back. Their tech. editor is second to none and campaigns canada's fastest import at the moment. Thier project white trash articles are probably the most informative and well written project car articles I've seen and you don't have to check out all the "souped up" cars that run 15s. Apparently a bodykit and rims is "souped up". I don't mind rice articles, useless car show stuff or the girls draped all over everything but they have their place. In mags like HCI, Import Tuner, etc. When I pick up a magazine to read a good bunch of tech. articles I don't expect to be let down. Modified hasn't let me down yet.

I havnt gone to in depth with the whole "comparing" which is good or bad, I usually just pic up what ever happens to be at the stand at the time... The one I do look for is Performance Auto and Sound .. Its Canadian, its cheap, and its always twice the size as most of the other mags I look at ! It goes indepth with audio stuff even though when they talk about ohms and shit I have NO IDEA what the hell they are talking about..
Plus they had a Probe in one of their last ones woo hoo:clap:

I don't bother getting subscriptions because there are always months that are good and months that are bad between all magazines. I use to go to Billy's News and just skim a selection of mags first before I buy one that I like.

Don't limit yourself to one source, just pick up the ones that are interesting.

I use to really like Turbo Magazine, I have been buying it since it came out originally, however, its been getting quite tiring in the last year or so, I find that its more about race scene coverage than actual tech or talk about turbo's, I could really give a rats ass of knowing the standings of every nopi.com drag racing event in the states, who the fuck cares, I want turbo and tuning knowledge, plain and simple..
I am going to try and find that "modified" mag this weekend, it sounds more my cup of tea than SCC or rice tuner..I love Car Craft mag, go figure..Maxt

Super Street is not bad if you just want to look at some JDM cars. I buy them once in a while, but all they do is talk about what this and that car has, jokes, and chicks (the good part).

SCC is more technical. More serious I think. No jokes and chicks, just straight forward car tuning magazine.

Option Fans is good if you know how to read Japanese, and where to get them. But they have way too many ads, and worst of all, they don't apply to us. They do show very nice cars though!! I heard the HK version Option Fans is actually decent, but too bad I can't read Chinese either.

So I think I will buy SCC if that is the only one car tuning magazine I'm allow to buy.

I think best mag is probably SCC from the Primedia group, for those who don't know Primedia basically is the parent company for every mag you read:
Turbo, Honda Tuning, Super Street, Import Tuner.. and wayy more.

As for crappy mags, my vote goes to Performance Auto & Sound,
They send me free mags and press kits to advertise in their mag, but in my opinion that magazine is all show. Plus the cars are ugly as hell.
Just my $0.02

i like superstreet,
they are technical and they have fun, and they don;t always have hondas. that is the only mag i have seen with ae86's, old school mazdas and imports in general. it still is gay once in a while too

i don't like scc, their jokes are gay and i don't like how it is written, but i still have a pile of them in my room. import tuner is all show....they don't even have one of those summary tables telling all that is done to the car. i hate that.

i think like mr. x said, it is best to get a mix of all mags, whatever is a good issue. i have atleast one of each of the mags mentioned, although i might not like each mag itself

I like SS just for the reason that its covering alot on the 240. And well I like that since they know what a real car is all about rather than honda civic after civic on every page. Personally Option is the bomb. Does anyone know if theres any places in calgary that get Option regularly?
