I was on my way to Pick your Part at 3 pm today and a newish Black M3 passed us . As we crossed the Calf Rope bridge, plumes of white smoke started coming out of the exhaust. We followed the car until it turned into the Auto Mall. The driver just turned right and accelerated quickly down the to the Mall. Poor car !
Either the diver didn't notice or didn't care..

hehe blown motor :(.

I saw one blow up in front of me last year... the guy wanted to race me in my SLK 320 off the line, I guess he thought it was an AMG. He went all out for about 2 gears and probably felt pretty good about himself, owning a fake AMG. Then he blew up, pulled to the side of the road, oil all over the place. He didn't look over as I passed him going 60 with a smile on my face.

So technically, I beat a E46 M3 in a 215hp SLK 320... those M3's are pretty fragile stock!

It's because the compression is way too high for the E46 M3's. For that much money, you think they would've done some better engineering...

No kidding.
If your going to spend $100k for a new car, it better be able to put up with some abuse!

hehe I seriously doubt it's headgasket. My money's on a hole in the block :).

I guess some of you don't know about the E46 M3 engine failures? It's a pretty common thing.

I know a BMW mechanic who loves all the new BMWs. They're making him very rich.

they are still the nicest cars on the road stock..... other than the exotics of course.... there is a sick ass titanium one in elbow valley right near me, he has 19' deep sish chrome rims, the things must be 10 inches wide minimum

I know they had a faulty cams and shit in the earlier production models, but i thought most of the E46 M3's were fixed...
Guess the 3.2L I6 has finally reached, and passed its limits...

Witnessed a blown M3 engine last summer at the BMW Driving School, engine blew at the end of the back straight and car ended up in the grass. Fairly embarrasing to happen at a BMW track meet, well actually pretty damn embarrasing to happen anywhere i guess:dunno: ......

ummm, if they are new, then they are under warrenty i have to assume. so they may be making your mechanic friend rich, but it's the company that's fucking themselves.

this guy sounds like he has more money than brains.

maybe he should learn how to drive.

don't M3's have problem's with oil pumps failing?

For the first guy in the M3 blowing white smoke, i bet he just drove it to Calgary BMW to save a tow bill, and took the bus home...wearing his leather jacket with matching driving gloves...

It's crank bearings that fail. When they fail, they shoot engine internals out the block. Oil and coolant then pours out the bottom of the car, gets into the exhaust (obviously) which is why you see so much smoke everywhere.

The smoke does stop eventually, once you run out of coolant and oil.
