I was a server admin/tech with HP/OAO canada but realised that all the people coming out of school were getting jobs for $20,000 and less working in the IT field.. so I'm back to my first love and specialty, the motorcycle industry!!

I'm now working at Walt Healy motorcycles in the parts and accesories department, and making 30% more than I did when I worked at HP!! I'm thinking about a job that I was offered with one of the major Japanese manufacturers, but I can't really talk about it yet.

I investigate motor vehicle crashes for.... whoever wants to pay me! Insurance companies, plaintiff/defence lawyers, auto manufactureres, etc.

Typical things I've done are:

- low impact assesments (used for determining the validity of "whiplash" cases)
- liability investigations (who's fault, who's lying?)
- speed assessments (how fast was buddy going before he crashed)
- seat belt use (eg. belts worn during crash or not? used to determine "Contributory Negligence", or how responsible for your injuries are you, since you didn't wear your belt).
- Police Report rebutals (used in court to usually put doubt in a traffic police officer's report when he charges a driver with a serious charge, so that the driver can be acquitted).
- Mechanical failures (eg. Did some shit break and cause the car to crash, or did that shit break in the crash).

Basically, if anyone has a question regarding what happened in a car crash, I'll try to give them an answer based on technical information/evidence.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

How does one get into this field? Always facinated me. When I was in Physics class I really liked the crash vector analysis we did.

3 ways:

1. Be a cop and join the Traffic devision
2. Take the traffic investigation courses, and beg a private firm to hire you (probably not going to happen).
3. Get a mechanical engineering degree and apply at the private firms (they'll train you).

I took route 3.
