Anyone notice the blazing-fast 4 door stock cavaliers around town?
Saturday, going down Deerfoot and then across Beddington and Country Hills, I ran into 3 seperate 4 door cavaliers all being driven like their a ferrari disguised as a cavalier or something... wtf
Anyways, I had some fun with the last cavalier I ran into that night. I saw him coming up behind me weaving through traffic like a fool. Anyways, as he comes up behind me, I speed up and match speeds with this car in the other lane. The fag in the cavalier starts tailgating me, so I let the accelerator go and start to slow down. When there is enough distance between me and the car next to me, the cavalier switches lanes and tries to pass. I drop a gear and speed up so that he gets stuck behind me and the other car again. Hahha, I was watching him in my rearview and he was giving me the finger and shit. I did the slow-down/speed-up maneuver at least 4 times before the car in the other lane took a right. The cavailer switches lanes and comes up next to me. The dude and his passenger are all looking me and cussing, I rolled my window down and laughed at them, then I dropped 2 gears and took off.
Last I saw they took the next left on to Shaganappi.

LOL! Beware them car-fighting Cavaliers!

Similar incident happened on the way back from Edmonton, heavy traffic in both lanes, slower traffic to the right.

I'm in left lane, this dark green Ford Escort ZX2 is tailgating me @ 120 kph. WTF? So I speed up, keeps tailgating me, I floor it to get some distance, ZX2 slowly catches up and tailgates again, I can't go any faster than traffic in front, still the ZX2 tailgates. Speed up, catch up, tailgate. Repeat, repeat.

Then after about a half hour of the same cycle, ZX2 pulls the change up, goes right lane/left lane weaving through traffic trying to get in front of me, ends up falling further behind. Get's pissed, has to fight vigorously to catch up.

ZX2 didn't get in front until we got into Calgary, then I retaliated with my own tailgating on Deerfoot, gave ZX2 a taste of their own medicine. The driver kept looking in rear-view, slowed to 90kph and let me go by.

Some people can dish it out and can't take it.

<--- hates j-bodies

what i hate even more is when the owners thing they are fast. ugh.

i can't cocnt how many of the idiots there are.

YOUR CARS AREN'T FAST!!!!

damn.

you should see my work, there were 5 employees with j bodies, all where girls. maybe the f&f wannabe's should take a hint.

Scott

I have to say that some of our j-bodies are fast. And those of us that arent modded yet are still "quick". A stock j-body will run a high 15 or low 16 so we arent that slow.

i will give a little respect to the ecotec 4cyl, as it is found in one of my favorite cars (opel speedster).

but the ones in the 2.2's PISS ME OFF, and give the ecotec guys a bad name.

btw, whats with the dual tips? :D

jk man

Scott

I dunno, it just looks bitchin. The GT has stock duals so i just kept it that way, oh yeah, and a 2.4 twin cam.

I agree, the 2.2 is kinda lame, its still a pushrod motor (who knows, maybe the ignition still has points too :D )

finboy
10-17-2002, 02:34 AM
...4 cyl push rod.

how the fock does that work????

Scott
10-17-2002, 02:36 AM
lol, the 2.2 is still a pushrod motor, if you look at it, the valve cover is about an inch tall. It still uses pushrods to work the valves.

how is the ecotec a good motor?

Davan

The ecotec motor was designed by Saab and Opel. It's bascially the EXACT same design as the Nissan SR20, only it's an open deck as opposed to a closed deck. Just provides better cooling.

GM has built up an ecotec motor that they use in drag racing. They are pushing 800 horsepower still on the stock block and head.

As for the old 2.2 Yeah, it's a peice of shit. And give all Sunfire GT and Cavalier Z24's a bad name. 115 horsepower compared to 150. and 135 ft-lb compared to 155. The Z24 and GT model are quick enough to do well in their class. Obviously they are no Type R killers. But they fair well enough against SiR's and GSR's.

The quality and build quality is horrible. But don't underestimate them on the street.

wouldnt the prev gen Z24s be faster than the new ones? 3.1 V6 in a relatively light car...but i managed to walk away from one in 3rd after a bogged start

Davan
10-17-2002, 09:23 PM
Actually, the 2nd gen Z24, is a notch slower than the 3rd gens. They have more torque (185), but little less horsepower (140) and a bit more weight (~150 pounds more). I think the gearing has much to do with it as well.

I think you might have your facts mixed up, yes they did get 800 hp out of it but it was not with a stock block or head, there wers stock components still there such as the actual block and head but most of the internals had been change

yeah...for the drag car they actually cut down the stroke to make it a 2.0, they changed everything except the block virtually

actually i had no idea that saab and opel designed the engine, but i guess i shouldnt be surprised. how is it similar to the sr20?

Davan

Actually, it is the stock block and stock head, reinforced. Read for yourself.

http://www.year2032.com/ecotec.htm

Obviously the internals are swapped out for stronger peices. I never said they weren't.

Davan

At the very bottom of the article is a chart that shows what they replaced, and when.

The block is stock, with new sleeves put in @ 750 hp
Head is stock, reinforced when they hit 650
Rods, pistons, rings, wrist pins all replaced.

It's actually quite a good article. :)
