Alrighty, the Voyager was laid to rest this past weekend, got rear-ended by some fag who thought his dads work truck was a race-car. So now it's time to get a new car. I was thinking of getting a late 80's Celica or Prelude to learn how to drive standard on. Which one do you guys think is better and more reliable?

Get a Celica, Preludes are too common.

preludes are common, cuz they are a reliable good car, but im biased.

For late 80's then get a Celica ! GTS or .. if u can find a All_trac

both of them are good cars, with good engines, and both are realiable .. but somehow .. most the late 80"s prelude r in bad shape ..and rust .. I guess Toyota did better on rust protection ? :dunno:

Prelude is more reliable, its a honda, but if I had a choice id go with the toyota

I would go with the Toyota if I had a chance, but GTS or All-Trac like C4S said

I think when it comes to reliability, Toyota & Honda are pretty much even.

As for which car, go for a Celica. Try to get one that is maybe 1990+, this gen of Celica's styling is far better looking.

The 5th gen Celica All-Trac for sure (1990-1993). It'll be hard to find one since they're rare but how can you go wrong with AWD and turbo?

I had an 89 Prelude Si 4WS (4 wheel steering). It was one of the best cars I've ever owned. I handled great, went fast (with some mods) and in 5 years not one serious problem. If you can find one get one. You can parallel park soooo easily. :D

When purchasing an older vehicle, I be more concerned about its history, maintenance, repairs etc. I don't think you can really go wrong with either one.

Toyota is moving up with their TRD setups, but if you are going to get a Celica, get a 95+ year. the ones under are extremely rare to find parts, especially the 2.2 liter engines

Dear: I choose Celica.
BTW, if you are learning how to drive standard, you should buy a FR car because i perfer FR car have more challenge.
do you like S13, Celica is a good choice too, it is 4WD in old version.
good luck Zoom_Zoom

For the absolute best value, especially if this is ur 'learner' car, u have to go with the Celica. The gen 4 is built real well, parts are not that hard to find (the autowreckers still have them) and just the overall ease of the car is remarkable.

As for the looks u have to start 90+ with the 94-99 being the best years for the Celica. Chances are very very slim to find the GT4 and u dont need that as a trial car.

not to say the prelude is an inferior car...just ask every 3rd guy in the city, chances are they own or owned one. Be original. Later on u will truly appreciate the celica. I've been with an '83 '84 (x2) '90 '94 '95(x2) and they all are amazing.

ENJOY

cheers
