It's not a common product and I don't believe its sold in Canada.

I've checked NAPA but haven't found it (yet). I think it'll be a hard one to get ahold of in Canada.

I dunno why, but this stuff scares the living shit out of me... The thought of an engine ingesting large amounts of liquid is very frightening.

scares me too, but that gives me all the more reason to try it...

I've used it before, you see alot of smoke but it's nothing too scary. I dont know where I picked it up, It's not all that common here.

Have you ever used a VIC before weapon? When you connect a bottle of solvent style liquid into your brake vacuum tube?

sea foam can be bad as if ur rings are worn u might get some blow by after.

But if its good u should gain a few octane from your gas.

Seafoam is awesome. I have a buddy who brought a case of it back from the U.S. Worked amazing on my Stealth. (Good smoke show too). Noticed and increase in power and better mileage. I swear by the stuff. You can't buy Seafoam in Canada.

Appearently it doesnt always have good reviews:dunno:
Myself, I wouldnt use it. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=780762

ran through my stealth as well. It really helps to make the engine quieter. The lifter tick on a 6G72 engine is horrible and the seafoam kills it for about a year.

give it a try. (not available in Canada and you can't ship it because its a hazerdous material)

I brought some back from Montana. If anyone is interested in trying it out Pm me with an offfer. I have not dyno'd or anything but got a few more mpg and the engine idle is a lot nicer.

A seafoam alternative is the "Cleens" or "Kleens" cleaner found at GMC/Chevrolet dealerships. Roughly $7-8 a bottle and works the same.

Seafoam is excellent for cleaning out carbon. It also smooths out the engine and idle. All in all, very safe to use. I have heard of it causing problems on the rare ocassions, but not a cause for concern.

It tends to smoke the most when you add it into your brake booster. A friend just added it to the motor and gas tank, not a lot of smoke :)

As far as I know you can buy a similar product at any local hardware sore but don't quot me on that.

Since everyone is telling people to search... I searched... and decided to bring back this thread... Where can I get the seafoam?

I add it to the crakcase before I change the oil (500km? can I change the oil earlier?), the gas tank, and the brake booster line, right? Anyone know where in a b16 the brake booster line is?

Mopar sells the same thing with a different name. It's called Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner. You can get it at any Chrysler/Dodge dealership, doesn't matter what kind of car you put it into.

Its a big fat vaccum line coming off the brake booster, it doesn't get any easier then that.

Don't add it to your oil unless you are about to change it. Definately don't drive around with that stuff in your oil.

If you want to add it to your fuel tank that is your own problem.

What seafoam is REALLY good at is removing carbon from piston crowns and cylinder heads/valves. I fed a full bottle through the intake on my 951 and it smoked INSANELY. I fogged out the alley for many many houses. It was so thick you couldn't see anything.
Once it finally stopped smoking it ran much better. Better idle, no knock at WOT when I hit full boost, etc.

i was just at napa they have lots.
i want to do it aswell but i was already fined 250$ for
working on my car on my own parking pad at my house.
it was a fine from the condo assosiation though not city of calgary.
so i dont think making so much smoke is a great idea.

You know where your brake fluid reservoir is at the back drivers side of your engine bay? The line comes off of there and is quite thick.

I got a can of seafoam from Napa...they've had it for awhile now, i never knew what it was till i took a closer look at it  made my 240 smoke like an SOB

Not sure if its the same stuff....it wasn't that thick...

when adding to the vaccum line. i suggest you get someone to help step on the gas. every little bit you pour in your rpm idle drops like CRAZY.

but when all is done. its sure fun. MASSIVE coulds of smoke

was just thinking of cleaning the throttle body good thing this thread got bumped

im gonna pick up a bottle or two and run it through my TB

what good is it putting it in the brake booster line?

Zero102
09-13-2006, 08:07 PM
The brake booster line is one of the biggest vacuum lines fed from the intake manifold. That is why a lot of people like to use it.

More important than the size of the line is the location of the line. You want a vacuum line that feeds all of your cylinders.
In the case of my 951 there is no such line. They are all fed between the intake runners, so no one vacuum line feeds more than 2 cylinders.
I removed the idle adjustment screw from the throttle body and used a length of clear vinyl tubing with a cone shaped adapter on the end.
I pressed the cone into the hole where the idle adjustment screw was, and dipped the end of the line in to the can of sea foam.

If you pour it into a large vacuum line you risk hydrolocking IMO.
With mine it took 2-3 minutes to draw an entire can of sea foam through the line.

sorry to bring up a dead post, but can it be fed through the PCV vacuum line?

should be any vacuum line... i used it on my brake booster

The usual warning I hear over this one if that as long as it's not upstream of any sensors (like MAF MAP) then it should be OK.

So wheres the best place to put this stuff into in your guys opinion?

whiskas
02-01-2007, 05:09 PM
To get the most out of your seafoaming feed some through one of your vacuum hoses. Put some into your crankcase through the oil fill hole. And put some into your gas tank (preferably with not much gas left).

Recommend you change your oil and spark plugs afterwards.

good demonstation, lol. i don't think he soaked it out till the engine stalled tho, he just let the vacuum leak stall out the engine.

Stuff has worked great both times I've used it, picked it up at Napa.

Went half into the intake, 1/4 into oil and 1/4 into the gas.

this stuff works......i am posting from the seafoam website the following:

How Many Mechanics Use SEA FOAM
In Tune-Up of 4 Cycle Gasoline Carbureted or Fuel Injected Engines
Autos, Trucks, and Tractors
With engine warm, slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint through carburetor or throttle body throat. (If vehicle is port injected slowly pour SEA FOAM through direct manifold vacuum line that will feed all cylinders, possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line.) This will pull SEA FOAM down on top of the pistons and to the back of the intake valves to dissolve carbon. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. If severe carbon build up is apparent, use more Sea Foam as previously directed. Make sure exhaust is well ventilated when using Sea Foam in these various ways as fumes will be extreme for a short time.
Pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint into oil crank case to clean rings, lifters, dirty parts and remove moisture.
Pour 1/3 to 1 full pint into fuel tank to clean injectors, carburetor jets, fuel lines and remove moisture.
Immediate Results: Smoother idle, increased R.P.M.'s better throttle response and improved performance. See label on can for detailed results for use in each area.
FUEL TANK, CARBURETOR, INJECTION and OIL CRANKCASE.

For Peak Performance, Use SEA FOAM Every 2,000 to 5,000 Miles

A 100% pure petroleum product for use in all gasoline and diesel type engines, both 2 and 4 cycle. OXYGEN SENSOR SAFE.
Cleans dirty engine parts internally by removing harmful gums, varnish and carbon. WORKS AND PERFORMS INSTANTLY.
Removes moisture from oil crankcases and fuel tanks.
Stabilizes and conditions fuels. Use for engine storage.
Cure hesitations, stalls, pings and rough idle due to carbon buildup.
Helps pass emissions test. EPA Registered.
When Used Thru Injection or Carburetor

Cleans carbon build up
Cleans intake valves and pistons
Gives smoother idle
Cleans catalytic converter odors
Cures hesitations and pings
Restores power and pickup
With warm engine running, SLOWLY poor 1/2 pint through carburator, throttle body or direct manifold vacuum line that will feed ALL CYLINDERS. Possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. Be sure exhaust is well ventilated. Fumes will be extreme for a short period of time.
For use in injector cleaning machines, use 50% SEA FOAM and 50% fuel.
Fill diesel filters with SEA FOAM to clean injectors fast.
When Added to Crankcase (Oil)

Frees sticky lifters and rings
Increases R.P.M.'s vacuum and compression
Cleans dirty parts
Removes moisture
Cleans PCV valve systems

One pint treats 10 quarts of oil (avg. 1 1/2 ounce per quart).

When Added to Fuel Tank
Cleans fuel injectors and carburetor jets
Cleans carbon as you drive
Lubricates upper cylinders
De-ices and removes moisture
Diesel full conditioner and anti gel
Stabilizes fuel
One pint treats 8-25 gallons of fuel (average 1 ounce per gallon

One more experience with the Seafoam. It was recommended to me by a friend who works at Napa and she had great things to say about it. I used it for the first time a few days ago (from the Napa in Cochrane) and no ill effects.

No idea how gas mileage might be, I haven't burnt up the leftover that went into the gas tank. But so far the results have been pretty good. The smoke show of course, which seemed a little scary for me as first (and definitely scared the neighbours), but since that the car has run great. Its never had a problem idling but it just purrrs now, much smoother that before.

Put about half into a vac line and what was left into the gas tank.

Didn't stall the engine when I used it, I managed to do the procedure by myself with no one on the gas pedal. Same idea as the VIC that you can get at the quick lubes (etc.), but $13 instead of the $100-$120 that the VIC typically costs.

I'm going to try it on the family beater too, see how the Tempo likes some Seafoam..

Got some at NAPA. $11.90. Will put 1/2 in gas tank, 1/2 down vacuum line in the next few days. Got some Auto-rx in the engine so won't use the Seafoam in there.

just did my car the other day...was fun to go WOT on the highway after pouring some into the TB...definately sounded nice and im pretty sure it made some difference as there was quite a bit of smoke out of the exhuast.

I put about 1/4 into TB. 1/4 into crankcase went for a 2km WOT drive then changed my oil. and the rest into half a tank of gas which is still going.
