Maltby AND Draper...am I missing something here? There's better defensive specialist out there such as John Madden and Michael Peca (hate him but he does get the job done). I would have dropped Maltby for Madden.

Someone needs to get their priorities straight! I don't know, you should ask their teams since they both disappeared in the playoffs:rofl:

I'm surprised Lecavalier isn't on that list but overall Gretzky has picked a very gritty team

Iggy Regehr:clap:

Shanny should have been in there
As for Kariya, he didn't have a great season at all rather a dissapointment, i think that was one of the main factors keeping him out of the lineup.

Shannahan isn't great at defence, and his scoring has been non-existent recently, and he's OLD... waste of roster space.
Kariya did jack all this year, no way he should be on the team.

Maltby and Draper are on to be put with Doan as our shut down line; they shut down Forsberg's line last year at the world championships if you remember.

Only real question I have is why is Brewer on the team again?? He sucks, did nothing this season, did nothing at the world championships, yet he's there?? why not a D-man with better potential, i.e. Bouwmeister???

Oh yeah, glad to see that bitch Bertuzzi isn't on the team as well.

Don't forget that if there are injuries, etc. they will have to replace the player, and I think Primeau is first on the list for replacements based on his play these playoffs... will Yzerman even be ready by then? Or how about Doan with his knee surgery?? There's some questions on some of those guys and if they'll be healthy enough to play.

ya.... they probably put those injured guys on the team just to buy themselves some extra time to choose the remaining 2 or 3 players that will actually play.

anyone have any clues to why Lecavalier wasn't picked? I was so sure he would've been picked

Shannahan was fantastic during the playoffs. He didn't score, but he led the team after Yzerman was injured. He can outplay half the guys that are on the roster. Kariya isn't having a great year, but he's a fantastic sniper and helped Team Canada immensely in the past.

The team overall is great, but there are some pics that just don't make sense. What about Primeau? Another great player, yet forgotten.

With the likes of Lemieux, Yzerman, Draper, hell, even Iginla, we don't need Shannahan for his leadership skills... we want younger players in there to replace him - don't forget this is 2004 not 1994, it's time for a changing of the guard... '02 was most of the old guy's last hurrah.

Who's place would you suggest Kariya take? Not Maltby or Draper's... we need good PKers, and Kariya is NOT one of them. And definitely not the young talent like Heatley, St Louis or Richards... there;s no room for a guy who just did not score this year.

And with Stevie Y's injury, Thornton's injury, Doan's knee surgery, I think we will still see Primeau on the team before the tourney starts.

well it all depends, wanye and co stated that its the FINAL ROSTER unless someone goes down hard with an injury. they all got several months to recover.

but yeah i do agree with you guys prmeau has really stepped up hsi game lately.

and also we will be playing on North American sized rink, not european so thats where maltby and drapers forechecking, pkilling come into play. not to mention they are fantastic short handed scorers. Led the league (detriot - 15 SH goals)
