It wasn't a GTR, it was a GTS, which is legal in May 2004 (look, it's May!). It did have an RB26 swapped in though.

He was seriously expecting to win? I mean if he spent some money to clean the car up, sure. The skyline was pretty beat, he would've got slaughtered on the exterior and cleaniness scores.

It's a 15 year old car, it needs a lot of TLC to be a show winner. I seriously doubt VUB would award the best anything award to a beat up car, even though it's VERY unique and cool.
